Namco have done an excellent job on AC4 - okay, there's no 60Hz mode, but it doesn't matter as the borders are minimal and the frame-rate is high. And there is a widescreen option, which is fantastic.
Just shows what can be done with a little effort. Well done, Namco... Capcom TAKE NOTE!
I haven't completed it yet only played it for half an hour or so but I hear ti is quite short but it does look like the kind of game I would play over and over.
Can't wait to get home and play it.
The final mission is very 'Star Wars' - you have to fly along narrow tunnels to get to the generators.
*** Last mission spoilers - don't read any further if you don't want to know! ***
As you approach Megalith, fly low - and I *mean* low,as in about 100ft over the sea. Press the Square button to bring up your radar map, and you'll see two thin green arrows showing you the location of the first two tunnels.
Take the left-hand tunnel first, and fly slowly (you may want to use the A-10 for this mission as it's quite a slow aircraft). Obviously you need to stay away from the tunnel walls, so you will find the HUD view easiest in this mission. Make sure you have missiles selected, and as you near the end of the tunnel, you'll get a lock on the first generator - fire two missiles to make sure. As soon as you fire the missiles, pull up through one of the gaps in the roof and press R1 hard to hit the afterburners.
Loop over until you are upside-down, then roll until you are upright and heading back the way you came. Get some distance between you and the Megalith, then turn around and use your radar to linie up for your run at the right-hand tunnel.
The right-hand tunnel is straight, but there is a short climb at the end to get to the second generator; the generator blocks your exit, but once destroyed you can exit the tunnel easily.
On exiting the tunnel, check your map for the third - for this you have to fly from East to West between pillars of the Megalith structure - this is the easiest of the three generators.
Between the first two tunnels, you may have noticed a third tunnel with a door blocking your entrance. Once you take out the third generator, this door will open, giving you access to the central missile. Fly along this corridor and you will see the missile at the end, after another short climb. At first this is a dead-end, but once you destory the missile, the launch doors above it will open - hit the afterburner and blast out of there to a hero's reception - Game Over!
Still I can always part-exchange it for something else - should get a fairly decent price on it, as it's new.
Have to say, though, the game is awesome. Garphically, it's better than Dropship - some of the areas are really beautiful. And it's really addictive.
If you don't want to buy it, it's well worth a rental.
