I really liked the psx based ace combat games, and I'm really looking forward to getting this game.

Does it have a free flying mode ?

One of the things I like in a number of games is the ability to roam and interact with the elements of the game, without any structured mission imposed on you (GTA3, Midtown Madness, any pc based flight sim)

Is there such a mode? Can you just fly around looking at stuff ?

The amount of missile fire you get in Expert is amazingly high, constant and continuous if you are aiming for S ranking. Particularly the ground-based missions with the SAMS as well, even tougher when you have to slow down to get a confirmed kill and even tougher still when you've got a plane best suited for ground assaults (A-10 which I've found to give the best chance of getting an S ranking asd it has I think the most air-ground missiles and that they are also multi-target) but not for avoiding missiles. One tip I can give is that when your allies warn you about an incoming missile in Expert mode is to more or less ignore them unless you already do that. Although it would be good to listen all the time particularly when they say that a bandit is behind you or something pay attention to when your plane receives a warning. This is because I've learnt that sometimes the allies messages come a split second before you are hit leaving no time to avoid missiles and in Expert mode that promptly leads to getting shot down. As soon as you receive a missile alert wait a fraction of a second a then do your best to avoid it. I've discovered that a missile doesn't launch as soon as the alert is given. It is launched about a second after. If you start avoiding too early the missile will track you and possibly hit. In expert mode as soon as you've avoided 1 missile alert another is shortly behind (this is really in the heart of enemy territory or when up against yellow squadron). People who think it is easy are not seeing the whole game. Challenge yourself to get all S ranking in Expert mode. If you've done that (even as far as never getting shot down or even hit) you can't turn round and say it was too easy and sell it. I admit it isn't the hardest of difficulties and I've achieved all S in Expert mode but getting shot down a few times (only because on the reply 2 missiles were fired and I avoided the 1st one only to find that I had another one behind be and boom I was blown out of the sky before I had time to react-that's why the allies help is sometimes late). Please don't give up on Ace Combat. It is still a challenge after you've completed it.

Nope, it's okay. It's just the 'SR Basildon Store has it all' one.

Now that is amazing and annoying. As soon as I posted that last message, guess what the banner was at the top of the page. Yep, Commanche 4.

"Absolutely Stunning" - PC Gameplay.
Commanche 4. Only 26.99.

Grrrrrrrr.....

If it's Ace Combat 4 once I post this then I will declare myself as the...errr....ultimately cursed one. :-D

I wanna play this more than ever now. It looks great. It is reminding me of Commanche 4 and I really want to play that again. I need to upgrade my PC, get a good joystick and buy Commanche 4. But before that, I need to go and rent AC4 tomorrow morning. :-D

I couldn't remember the code or whatever (eg:F14 and SU-37). However, I found that I needed to get S rank in all missions (i've now heard that it needs to be at normal or above in order to get the plane) which is possible.

Just to add to this, as you buy planes and use them online, maybe you could even design your own colours and insignias on your collection of planes :-) A good amount of missle choices to purchase for each plane would be good too so when it came to online play, you'd encounter opponents with various missle preferences :-)

I've beat this game, but its just so good I like to play through again :-) Would the last plane a couple of people were talking about the S37-A ? Its basically an
SU-37 with stealth ability. If thats the case then its a case of finding it and shooting it down in one of the missions - time to get dogfighting people ;-)

I love this game, well worth the wait :-) Love landing on the aircraft carrier and stuff :-) Wouldn't it be great to have a game of this series that can be played online with like 32 players :-) 2 teams of 16 - maybe with matches like F-14's vs MIG-29's :-)

I think this would be such an excellent game to play online, especially if you had the replays after and the chance to reload on carriers and landing strips :-)

It is seriously addictive and the feeling of being in a Top Gun senario is so good. The graphics make it so easy to become a part of it. I recommend that people rent it if they have doubts but it is so good. People who already have it should keep it. There may not be any other games that come close (eg/after completing GT3 nothing has come close to it). People may not know this but after completing hard mode Expert is unlocked. I'm part way through this and you have to be a REAL ace to pull off the mission, get an S rank and avoid the continuous missile alert (particularly when facing the yellow squadron. I'm barely making it back sometimes and a missile streaking across your cockpit window.

Try it. A game of this calibre should not be ditched when you have completed it.

I realise it's short and I completed it the day I bought it on very easy and then hard the next day. Despite that I love it the realism, feeling everything about it especially the graphics are so good. I'll play it over and over again. About the last plane. I discovered that I needed to get S ranking in all 18 missions. You get an X2 Bomber and it is good. As for the 3 types of design for each plane I've tried them all in free play mode but in the real thing I'll stick to the F15-Active unless there's one of the mission s that needs a ground attack.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Brilliant service.
Love it, love it, love it!
