I'm moving back a step now. I've got S rank on all levels of normal, hard, expert and Ace (dont see anything special about getting all S in Ace (not even another plane). I'm going back to complete very easy and easy (just for the fun of it). The problem is Ive accidently started Ace again so in order to win money from very easy and easy I'll have to complete Ace again. Oh well at least I dont have to force myself to get and S ranking. Could do it on free mode but I might as well finsh what I started. Incidently the X2 thingy (i know its got x2 in it) is the best plane though which design i want to pilot is uncertain. For now I'll just build up excess credits. Keep entering posts!!!!!!

How is everyone else coping with Ace Combat 4. I'm starting to have difficulties reaching S rank on the Ace levels but then recently I've been playing on GT3 and I need to practice again. I'm getting A's but I must be so close to S. On 'Invincible fleet' I eventually got S after getting an A. I found out I was only 20pts off!!!! All it took was to destroy another target and that was it. I'll reply soon.

Some of the busier levels on Ace mode are more 'how long can you dodge missiles' levels. Yello squadron are parictularly good at sticking to your tail and firing. No one could ask for a harder challenge. People who think this is easy are wrong. If they can get S ranking on all Ace modes, 1st time, without being damaged etc and doing it almost blind fold then I believe it's still a challenge or at least enjoyable enough to play again and again.

You've made the right choice. If you read what I've previously said (and others who praise the game) you will realise that it is not a game that fools people just by having lush graphics.

However, I have been forced to give up a lot of my fighters where I've got more than one type (the cheaper ones) in order to buy the more expensive ones. I'm still keeping one of each though. I think I sold the tiger coloured F-4E (the first plane) though as it was the more expensive of the 3 types.

Got any games you don't play anymore on any formats ? You could trade a couple in or something and try and get it that way :-)

I've shot down all the planes available but I haven't bought them all as I'm short of cash. So far Ace ranking is the toughest in terms of getting an S ranking. For example I got all the enemies on the 1st level that were visible but only got an A. This means I was either not quick enough, allies shot some others down or you also need to find the hidden planes. I then went on to get S in mission 2. So far it's been not too hard but the later levels are going to be tough.
Has anyone had a go at the time trials? I've just had a go at them and they are good to play. The short course one was scary. I took the 1st bend a bit too fast (around 900) and my right wing scrapped the mountain/hill. I must have been so close to crashing.

has anyone chased down and destroyed the lockheed SR-71 blackbird...its on the mission where you have to dogfight and score 800 points then destroy B2 stealth bombers.....any way the SR-71 is the orange target on your radar at the very begining of the mission...you must climb to about 40000 feet and its worth 200 points...if you can catch it....if anyone is unaware ...the lockheed SR-71 blackbird is the fastest plane evere built, and cruises at about mach 6 at the edge of space.....cool

People......I haven't told you the whole truth. After completing Expert a while ago I thought that Expert was the highest difficulty.............it's not. There's an Ace mode. I was about to start special continue again on Expert to try out all the planes at least once (I've been playing Wipeout Fusion as well) and I found a new mode. From the way it describes Ace mode (and the name itself) I can be almost certain that Ace is the highest difficulty. Haven't playedit yet (just found the new mode and had to tell you all-unless you know). Put it this way it's going to be getter and tougher than what I said about Expert mode. I'll talk more about it later.

Yes there is a free flight mode. There is also a music select, scene select, statistical use of planes number of total air and ground targets. What else...2 player, time trial, special continue where you can play the game again but with all the planes, weapons and money from the last game. I recommend you read what's already been said. I've previously given this game a lot of credit which it certainly deserves.
