well i think i have the answer.
the gamecube comes out in may right ... so nintendo have to :
1) get people to buy the gba instead of a ps2 or xbox , as most people wont buy both in the same week. to do this they made it cheaper.
2) the more people that buy them , the more will see the gamecube link up on the back of the box , so the more people who will be interested in gamecube. and so more people will see the quality of the gba , forget the ps2 or xbox and wait that extra little bit for the quality gamecube.
3) then they will show there new gba to their mates , who will say WOW ! they will say how cheap it was , then they will go and buy one , then they will see the gamecube , think the link up is cool (which it is , but even more for joe bloggs) and they will also wait for it to come.
so basically what im trying to say is , for nintendo to sell more gamecubes they need to sell more gba's , which in the long run results in more and more people getting interested in the gamecube. And then nintendo are back on top , dominating the market.

Maybe Nintendo are making a new handheld? One the power of an X-Box or PS2 or something.. Maybe handhelds could become more powerful than console's.. Maybe..

I just want to say that the gba sucks the graphics are basically the same as the gb thats my opinion anyway.
Nintendo themselves say they've been able to cut the cost of components and production, and are handing the savings on to us. The price cuts have been global, so probably aren't solely for the benefits of europe and the forthcoming cube release, but i'm sure there is more to it than just cheaper parts.
