well i think i have the answer.
the gamecube comes out in may right ... so nintendo have to :
1) get people to buy the gba instead of a ps2 or xbox , as most people wont buy both in the same week. to do this they made it cheaper.
2) the more people that buy them , the more will see the gamecube link up on the back of the box , so the more people who will be interested in gamecube. and so more people will see the quality of the gba , forget the ps2 or xbox and wait that extra little bit for the quality gamecube.
3) then they will show there new gba to their mates , who will say WOW ! they will say how cheap it was , then they will go and buy one , then they will see the gamecube , think the link up is cool (which it is , but even more for joe bloggs) and they will also wait for it to come.
so basically what im trying to say is , for nintendo to sell more gamecubes they need to sell more gba's , which in the long run results in more and more people getting interested in the gamecube. And then nintendo are back on top , dominating the market.
dankashon.
lol, the Dreamcast controller had 2 analogue buttons and a space for a vmu unit, it was the closest thing to a revolutionary controller since the N64....
And alot of the games were absolute classics that you will soon be playing on your GC...
Saturn was overpriced, underbacked and generally lacking, i prefered the SNES... Saturn had some good games, but i had little money back then.
Dreamcast - again SEGA launched at the beginning of the new next-gen, its almost forgotton that it was actually a new next-gen console, seems ancient. It had some good games - Crazy Taxi and Soul Calibur come to mind... but under developed for... the control pad a shody remake of the n64...
Anyway i apologise for any pain i may have caused...
As for Sonice, I LOVED Sonic Adventure, one of my favourite games, it was just plain fun so I went out of my way to get Sonic Adventure 2...
Basically I thought it was rubbish and probably the worst game to convert to GC..
I will definately NOT get Sonic 2 on the GC. I had it for the DC, and it is the WORST sonic game I have ever played. It took 4 days to finish and was just so lacking. If you've played Sonic Adventure 1, you'll understand what I mean.
Anyway, I did have a Dreamcast. And no, I didn't lose my sanity- I think hat anyone with a barin would realise that it's a great console, with the most original line up of games ever. It didn't sell well because complete morons (casual gamers) believed Sony's lies about the PS2...
As for the saturn , I never had one, but friends did, and I have to say, I need to buy a second hand one soon. NiGHTS! is my fave game ever- more original than anything else ever. Oh, and panzer dragon is cool... but costs £100 in auctions!
Sonic
p.s. i having nothing else to say, i just thought a p.s. would look nice and sound good in the scheme of things...
Of course, part of any price cut is low production prices, however, it's a well known fact that manufacturers make a loss on hardware, and then make money on software sales.
And with a console like the GBA, the profits ninty gets of software is soooooo high. 2 years ago ninty was the ONLY console manufacturer to make a profit after the Japanese economic collapse- simply on game boy games sales!
So, why else would Ninty lower the price. Well, ignoring the GC for now, consoles sales completely collapse after Xmas- everyone wants one for Xmas, and afterwards the demand is gone. So, drop the price, increase sales again.
With the GC's launch approaching, Ninty no doubt want to have lots of kids with GBAs in their pockets, thus making them prime targets for the GC. Once again, ninty has hit it's target market perfectly.
Sonic
Nintendo are showing that they don't need high prices to make huge profits, as they'll sell loads!!
