Hello! Didn't know where to put this thread. Freeola made it's old home 'Web design only' during the move and I'm sure those programmers wouldnt be able to help me. =)

I'm trying to edit some videos and I've already gotten stuck. =/ From experience with other editing software I want to highlight a section of clip I dont want and then press delete. It usually works but for Adobe Premiere Pro it doesnt. =( What am I doing wrong? How can I cut up my videos and delete clips I dont want?

Links to any videos showing you how, would be great. Cheers guys. =)

------

If you've never used Adobe Premiere Pro we can always talk about something else. Umm Canon have just released information about their new 1ds Mark III DSLR camera. 21MP blimey. I think it's $8000 in America and $12,000 (£6000) in the UK. ¬_¬ For that price you may as well fly to New York for the weekend and pick one up. You can even declare your purchase and pay VAT at custom and STILL have change left over.

Oh that's right, you guys dont chat about photography either. *pout* If only Tony didnt get rid of the Gadget forum.

I've already tried that. That's pretty much what it says to do in the Help files, but it simply doesn't work.

drag the transition effect you want onto the top (i think) layer of video and it`ll appear in "effect controls" for you to play with i believe.

i don`t really use the transition track very often as i ususally create my own devices for getting between shots.

let me know if that`s no help and i`ll have a closer look at premiere and post more thoroughly :)

Hmm. I've cut up my video into all the individual clips, but which layers are transitioned between each other? Because I can put a transition into the transition layer, but regardless of what layers I put the videos on, the transitions simply don't work. It just cuts to whatever clip in on the top layer.

import your captured footage and drag it onto the timeline.

press C for te razor blade tool and simply click on the video where you want to make the cut.

if you`re not 100% accurate, zoom in, press V for the selection tool and drag the ends of the clips around as desired.

there`s a transition layer and a host of video effects to get between clips.

any other problems, chuck them in here and i`ll try to help :)

i`m the opposite, in that i`ve not used final cut for ages, but from memory most of the functions are similar.

Apologies for bumping and hijacking this topic, but it is somewhat related and I'd get Vexxeded if I posted the same topic again.

Anyway, moving on:
I'm using Adobe Premiere 6.5 I'm used to Final Cut Pro, but I'm not at college until late September, so can't use it. So my questions are:
1. I've got my video of my bro's wedding the other day. If I capture the whole lot in one, how do I split the video into separate clips for individual editing?
2. I trust that as soon as I've done this, I'll be able to insert transitions and such like. How would I do that in Premiere 6.5?

Many thanks!

mate i`ve been doing 3d stuff for 3 years and i still don`t like Maya. i can use it, but i find it needlessly complicated and it feels like it`s fighting you over the slightest thing. 3ds Max has a far nicer UI.

when you open premiere and start a new project, you can choose the "custom settings" tab and change the resolution in there

right-click the video or audio and select "unlink" from the menu. you can now move them independantly.

you can create shapes using the tools on the left of the titler window. you can adjust their properties using the options that appear on the right once you`ve created them.

you don`t use the titler for this, you use a colour matte.
file-> new-> colour matter
then choose the colour.

hmmm.. well in premiere you can TRY selecting an audio effect (in the same place you find the video effects, video transistions, etc) and dragging it onto the audio clip you want to change. there are some DeEsser and DeHummer filters, you can give them a try - but i`ve not really dug too much into them, i try and make sure my audio is ready to go before it comes into the edit, sorry dude.

Yeah I can tell from your animations you've learnt a lot. As I use Photoshop I'm familiar with some parts of the program so I'm not finding it completely strange (like when I tried using Maya and gave up).

Don't suppose you can help me with another problem V_M? =) I want to be able to change the frame size. As I'm working with my webcam I really dont need the frame size to be 4:3. As you can imagine if I watch my clips in a video program or in a Flash player, theres lots of wasted space.

Is there anyway I can reduce the frame size to it's closer to what my video size is? (i.e not 4:3) I think I'm suppose to choose at the beginning when I start the project but the avaiable presets just confuse me. =(

Apart from that I've learnt so much in such a short time. I really cant wait to get a camcorder are start making some real video.

Oh wait I tell a lie there are some things I still have yet to figure out.

- After cutting up a scene, I wanted to keep the audio and remove the video. I know I can just overlay something over it but I just wonder if it's possible to do that as the video and audio parts like to stick together.

- Is there anyway to create shapes in the Titler? For instance if I wanted a coloured box that I can place text in.

- Can I create a background colour in the Titler? I wanted to display an image on a white background, but as it was portrait in size the side spaces were black or the background video. So I'm wondering If I can create a background to cover the whole screen.

Oh I mentioned to you before about exporting the audio and getting rid of the noise in Audacity. I tried that but when I opened up the Wav file in Audacity is jut crashed it. =( That was annoying. Hopefully I can get that fixed.

"rather good" hehe, it`s a top piece of kit. i get to use the full editing tools for work and when you start getting the hang of a good workflow (running elements through after effects and making stuff look snazzy, then editing them together in premiere, etc) you can get some top results.

i used adobe software for the texture/compositing/editing processes of Asimov (have always used premiere, but this was my first foray into proper post production) and found them very versatile and well worth the time experimenting with.

to change the duration of images and titles, simply use your select too (V) and drag the start/end point as needed.

to add images to titles:
when you`re in the titler, you`ll notice a new "title" menu in the top menu bar (where file, edit, etc are)
click that, go to "logo" and then "insert logo"
