There is a VERY good topic in FOG Prime Topics going but i'm interested in the 'pro-PS2' views of this forum..

I think you can forget the £150 price tag. Even when the HD was announced and 40gig was massive, the price mentioned was around the £100 mark. Since then, HD prices have fallen, so I don't expect it to be anywhere near that now. It will probably be more expensive than a standard PC 40gig HD as it will obviously come with an interface allowing it to connect to the PS2. I reckon £50-£80 by the time it's released.

With normal products I'd agree, but remember they want this to take off, so they will be taking price into serious consideration.
trouble is the only broadband where i am is ADSL D'oh.
the hard disk could be really good but what size are they saying? i heard it's going to be 40gig and for a £150 quid thats way to pricy.
sony should of made it a IDE harddisk connector then we could whack a nice PC one in. but that's probably why they didn't :) they want us to spend a load of dosh on a pricy sony one i suppose.
i'm not sure about this whole broadband thing though as being sony it won't be cheap. it'll be good if they had a one off yearly payment or something for it though.
PLAYSTATION® 2 BROADBAND REVOLUTION MOVES A STEP CLOSER
- Multiplayer PlayStation® 2 service on course for 2002 launch-
The PlayStation®2 broadband revolution is a step closer, as Telewest Broadband begins trials of a dedicated PlayStation 2 broadband network.
The closed-trials began this week, and are expected to continue into the new year, with a limited public trial expected to commence in early Q1.
"The Telewest PlayStation 2 Broadband Service will lead the way in connecting PlayStation 2 consumers on powerful broadband networks”, said Nainan Shah, Director of Business Development, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “The service will offer a plug-and-play experience for multiplayer gaming, downloading of game demos and other content, as well as news and reviews presented in way that PlayStation 2 consumers have not experienced before."
Tom Cotter, head of games at Telewest Broadband, said: “As we promised at E3, the trials have started before Christmas and we’re very excited to be embarking on this project.
“The Telewest Broadband PlayStation 2 network will, for the first time, establish protocols for networked games, making the development of these titles much more straightforward. Telewest Broadband is investing heavily in the PlayStation 2 service; believe me, this will be multiplayer gaming and broadband access integrated like never before.”
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will be unveiling more details of its
PlayStation 2 network in early 2002.

I read they should be making an announcement by the end of FEB in time to go up against the XBOX and GCN, but more than likely, most sources are saying Summer with FFX?
Speculation is great, but I'll be ahead of you all with my PS2 linux kit giving me everything I need for £150 (May 2002)!! Just need to wait for the ADSL line to be connected!!
> However, it is only a broadband *adapter* - i.e. an Ethernet card. It will not *give you* broadband access; for that, you will need a broadband connection from someone like NTL/Telewest, and you will also need to buy or rent a cable modem in order to have broadband access. The cost doesn't end with the (predicted) £39.99 purchase of the adapter.
Hense why the Subscription method would work as it does in Japan... you get the hardware subsidised with the connection and line... You'd pay "x" amount for the installation of your ADSL then a monthly sub for access to the network including the hardware... TeleWest and BTOpenWOrld are looking to be the main suppliers but all will be revealed by Sony soon...
Obviously there will be some form of sales model for buying the hardware seperately, but the current model in Japan seems to be working really well...
The method is plug-in and play, so I'd assume the modem you got would be compatible with ADSL?
As I understand it, the unit contains a 56k modem which will work with suitable software.
