How do you get:

19 - 1 = 20

On you go... you'll laugh when you hear the solution.

How exactly is that wrong? I got the same answer.

So, if each man ends up paying £9 each (£10 originally, plus £1 in return) and the porter pockets £2, why does that only add up to £29? 3 x £9 = £27 + £2 = £29? You figure it out.

£30 - £5 = £25

£25 + £1 + £1 + £1 = £28 + £2 = £30

If room was £25 the men should only pay £8.33 each...

£8.33 x 3 = £25

£25 + 1 + 1 + 1 = £28 + 2

The men should have been given £1.66 back each

Leaving a missing 33p x 3 = £1

Or something :)

erroneous means wrong. The dude took upstairs the wrong £5....
