OK, I've got OmniHTTPd, but how do I set it up as a php server. At the moment all my files save as '.php.txt' rather than '.php'.

Turbo's right - from a syntax point of view, the content of the page is supposed to be enclosed in tags. The HTML validator I use, complains about stuff after the .

Looks like the browsers however are more tolerant than I would have thought - particularly Netscape 4, which has always been picky about tags out of place. For your info, I see that IE6, NS4 and Opera5 all show text outside the body tags. NS6 is more tolerant still, so I guess that would work.

But style sheets, now ... if you try the following, then you do get different results in different browsers.

Blue

Out of body experience

On my system, IE shows the words "out of body experience" coloured blue, while NS4 and Opera5 show them coloured black. Like Turbo says, it's best to keep to the rules so as to keep problems to a minimum.

Well, it does. You should always follow the rules anyway, especially with things so simple as those.

I've never experienced a problem with that, but if you say that it affects the layout in some browsers then I will have to change my ways.

Well, that's not really correct, but I don't really want to have an argument about that.

It didn't show anything because NTL don't support PHP - the thing wasn't the problem. It's alright now, though.

Well if it doesn't show anything at all I'd define it as "messed up". I was just saying so that you didn't make the same mistake on something more important. I know you wouldn't, but I was just saying anyway.

Well, not with IE or Netscape, so it's hardly all 'messed up' as you put it.

Well, everything should really go in tags, otherwise it won't be shown. Also, I've heard stories of some browsers coughing if there's no

Problem solved - NTL don't support PHP. But Freeola do, so I uploaded it to my Freeola space. Sorted.

You still have to explain what's wrong with my HTML though, Turbo.
