I am feeling a bit of a dunce. I'm stuck on a really basic level in Half Life - the Office complex. I don't know how to get out. There's a big lift shaft with ladders, which you can climb; but you cannot reach the top one to get out. There's a locked door with a businessman behind it - I can't work out how to open it. Help me, for pity's sake.

Well i think, that you climb onto the top of the lift, and break through a hatch on it, then walk through the door inside the lift. That might be a different bit, i havent played it for a while, and i would look but some friend is borrowing my half life games.
So if my idea doesn't work, maybe a half life pc walkthrough will help. I think theres one on planethalflife.com, let me know how you get on. :)

Hope this helps a bit :)

Yeah counter strikes cool ....firearms and day of defeat are good games too. Also Action Half life, this one is a smaller file, so doesnt take so long to download :)

as a game for just 1 player use half life is ok but not amazing but it's the deathmatches where half life and it's number of add ons really come into their own. feeling panicky when you hear your opponent getting near and then showing up out of nowhere is quite scary and gets your heart pounding. if you want to be able to play a game over the net then half life or more specifically counter strike really are must haves

I havent completed the Ps2 version as i only rented it out, and didn't play it enough to finish it all. But i got a long way into the game, and from what i could see there wasn't much differnce to the pc version. Except the Decay mode which was quite fun, but i dont think you should buy it just for that.

Yes Half Life on the Pc is worth getting especially as it's now £10 if i remember correctly. As for configuring the game, there isn't really much you have to do.
When i bought it all i had to change was the resoloution, which only took a second. The controls are basically the same as most the other first person shooters i have played on the pc. Left mouse click to fire, the direction arrows are to move around. Moving the mouse to look around the place, and differnt weapons for each number key. They are the basic controls you need, aswell as space for jump, and ctrl for crawl i think.
But as you say you hate pc games, so if you think you'll enjoy it more on the PS2 go and buy that one, although it will cost quite a bit more than the pc version which i think is the best option. The other thing that makes it better, is the mods avaliable free to download, which offer excellent multiplayer fun. These add to the life of the game, and will keep you entertained once you've finished the single player game. :)

Is Half Life worth getting? Everyone says it's a masterpiece and all that but I've played the PC demo and didn't find it that interesting. Probably because i hate PC games that take ages to configure your controls, sort the resultion, mouse sensitivy and drown you in option menu's *shudders* but console versions usually sort all that before hand. My point being is the PS2 version any good even though it's on CD??

I have completed the Pc version, so am not sure if its any different to the PS2 version. But anyway i think you have to jump across the lift shaft onto the yellow ladder on the wall opposite. The once you have done that you keep climing up the ladders to the top if i remember rightly.
Hope this helps a bit :)
