Just a few hours before the press conference in London, Germany and France we can already inform you that Nintendo will be releasing a new GBA!
CNN already speculated that Nintendo would announce a new GBA today. This has now been confirmed by Nintendo. The most popular game system in history is getting a facelift.
The upgraded system will feature a flip-up, back-lit color screen and will cost 99$US. The Advance SP includes lighting along the screen's edge. For the first time, it also comes with a rechargeable battery pack instead of depending on disposable AA cells. The battery pack lasts about 10 hours including the light and up to 18 hours with the light off.
According to Nintendo, Advance SP is compatible with all previous Game Boy cartridges.
Shaped like a cosmetics compact, the SP has its 2.4-by-1.6 inch screen built into its lid and unfolds vertically. It folds into a 3-inch square about an inch thick — nearly half the size of earlier units.
The GBA SP is due for a release on the 23rd of March in America. We expect the European date to be announced in a few hours at the Nintendo Press Conference! Stay tuned for this and more later today as we cover the Nintendo Press Conference...

Oooo sounds interesting. Quite annoyed I bothered buying a GBA now. Specially going that I've now had it over a year, and I still only have 1 GBA game. Got a few GB games, but still, really not many! Admitelly there is a few I want. Might go buy some soon.
:)
I kinda wish it looked more like the current GBA design, one that's a lot more comfortable to hold. But I like the silver colour all the same.
They also say at cube-europe that it'll be released in Europe on the 28th March - just 3 days before my Birthday...!
I know what I want for my 18th! ;D

:)
In someways it's good. In someways it's bad.
Good that the GBAs now got a light so you can see the screen better, and it'll come with a DECENT battery recharger.
Bad in that I've only had my GBA for just over a year, and I've still only got 1 GBA game!
But, is this really what Nintendo want?
I mean how long till the GBA is obsolete anyways? I thought they were talking about creating a new Gameboy with a better chip inside it to make it more powerful! New mobile phones are getting games to GBA standard, and maybe better! Nintendo are going to have to pull something out of their hat, if they are going to stay on top. Admittely, the Gameboys not going to die anytime soon, but presure is soon going to start being applied.
So are Nintendo just coping out with this new version? Is it just a stepping stone for a brand new Super GBA? Who knows. Nintendo act crazy at times! lol
But I can see this new version appealing to the people who wouldn't normally get a GBA just because of the way it looks. You know the types; those sort of people who always HAVE to have the latest mobile phones!
:)
Nice when shut.
But now I'll have to think of something else for my Birthday in March as this won't be available anytime-soon.
But what good's a smaller screen gonna do?
The back-lit features and the rest sound great though!
I bet that with the smaller screen, Nintendo are hoping that even-more peole take note of the GameBoy Player that'll surely help boost GameCube sales amongst GBA owners that don't have one, and are struggling with smaller screens.
