Just a few hours before the press conference in London, Germany and France we can already inform you that Nintendo will be releasing a new GBA!

CNN already speculated that Nintendo would announce a new GBA today. This has now been confirmed by Nintendo. The most popular game system in history is getting a facelift.

The upgraded system will feature a flip-up, back-lit color screen and will cost 99$US. The Advance SP includes lighting along the screen's edge. For the first time, it also comes with a rechargeable battery pack instead of depending on disposable AA cells. The battery pack lasts about 10 hours including the light and up to 18 hours with the light off.

According to Nintendo, Advance SP is compatible with all previous Game Boy cartridges.

Shaped like a cosmetics compact, the SP has its 2.4-by-1.6 inch screen built into its lid and unfolds vertically. It folds into a 3-inch square about an inch thick — nearly half the size of earlier units.

The GBA SP is due for a release on the 23rd of March in America. We expect the European date to be announced in a few hours at the Nintendo Press Conference! Stay tuned for this and more later today as we cover the Nintendo Press Conference...

Oooo sounds interesting. Quite annoyed I bothered buying a GBA now. Specially going that I've now had it over a year, and I still only have 1 GBA game. Got a few GB games, but still, really not many! Admitelly there is a few I want. Might go buy some soon.

I don't see why it would be uncomfortable...
With the screen flipped down, it's exactly the same as the original gameboy in shape isn't it? And that was pretty comfortable.

I've noticed the L and R buttons though... hmmmmm. They could be painful after a lot of use.

Have to get my mits round one and test it.

Oh no, it sohuldn't be uncomfortable because it's damn small! Actually, it could be...urm. I just got a ruler, its mini. I like mini silver things.

Best things on it are of course the backlit screen (which should of been on the GBA) and the rechargeable battery. 10 hours lit, like my iPod.

Now all we need is the games, seriously.

I have Mario Kart, Advance Wars and Tony Hawks 2. Played them all alot when I got them but not much anymore. Nintendo should put some more work into games for it and not let the third partys just take all the spotlight, if they are even taking it at all...

It looks like it could be, but this is Nintendo! They generally do design things pretty well. Guess we're just gonna have to wait till we get our hands on the little thing, to see how well it holds.

Silver. Everything looks best Silver.

The Blue is more like the Indigo seen on the GC i'd say. The Black is quite nice too.

Wouldn't it be a bit uncomfortable though?!?

I still think silver looks best.
