This maybe not the right forum but as i know most of you ill post it here.

Anyway, currently im at 6th form doing English language anmong other subjects and planning to go to Uni. many people have asked me what i plan to do as a carear and i never really knew. Back tracking a bit, in english we had to do some course work and to cut a long story short i did a games review. I got a great grade for it and even the teacher thought it was good, but one thing stood in my mind, she told me that i should consider going into this line of work and that set me thinking.

Being a games reviewer is something that i really would enjoy doing, not only because i love playing games but i also love writing and giving my opinions, and so i decided to persue this carear path. I started to send some letters to magazines as told by carears people at school a few weeks ago.

Now i know Royal mail is bad, but not this bad. So far i have had no replies back and im wondering are they really to busy to reply to me. I mean, i thought most industries were looking to always bring new blood into them, but none of them seem interested.

The point of my post is, is anyone in the same situation? Or can anyone give me any advice.

Cheers. Pro.

The old chicken and egg situation:

You need experience to get a look in, but how do you get the experience without having the job?...

The other way is to "work your way up" in a company. (Expect to start right at the bottom, doing all the crappy jobs, running around for other people etc.) After you've been there a while, an opportunity to progress might present itself.

Basically don't expect to walk into your chosen job (Even after Uni)

Good luck mate

It's a tough old world out there!

Unfortunately, you'll pretty much find this for all 'proper' first jobs. Some companies make a point of replying to job related enquiries, others don't. Usually because of lack of time and resources. If you can afford it, another option is to include an SAE. This seems to get a better response, even if you only get your SAE back. At least you feel like your letter will have been read, rather than binned. I would expect that the problem will be greater in the games reviewer field, because a lot of people will want to do it. Maybe you could find another less popular job at a magazine, apply, get that, and then move on to reviewer later. Getting your foot in the door is the important thing.

on the treterous part of trying to get a job in the games industry - i bet most of the regulars on the site would like a job like that. Any way, the magazines usaully do respond positievely but youre looking at a couple of months -most of them will just send you information telling you how and what you need etc to become one - it should be easilier to get a job in this form rather than actaul graphic design, and its a good path to go on. Good luck mate, if you need any further help just post a mssg for me

Dame, unfortunately magazines do not always have time to reply tothe letters they receive and therefore you should wait for a long time till they reply (thats if they are bothered to). YOu could alternatively e-mail the magazine and have a better chance of getting a reply
