Some of us know how popular anime is, others are still stupid enough to call it kids stuff (pokemon) or sick perverted stuff (something released by Manga Entertainments). When will people grow up.
Anyway here are a few conspiracy theories where some popular movies have been found to be a little too similar to certain anime series or movie. Here are some websites that go into them in a lot more detail. You'll also see scene by scene shots for you to compare similarities between the two.
The Matrix Vs. Ghost In The Shell (anime movie available in the UK)
The guy who made The Matrix is a big anime fan (didn't know that did you?) and the Matrix is heavily based on the anime movie Ghost In The Shell (GITS) which was hoped to be the next Akira. Despite being a big fan of the movie and being heavily inspired there are a lot of similarities. If you haven't seen Ghost In The Shell you can buy it in the UK or you can watch it free on the Sci Fi channel on Saturday 2nd February, 12:30am (http://www.uk.scifi.com/anime.htm for a list of many other popular animes on UK TV)

Disney's The Lion King Vs. Kimba The White Lion (anime series available on Sky)
Remember the Simpsons episode where Bleeding Gums Murphy died and "Simba's" father appeared in the cloud before Lisa, he was quoted as saying "Avenge my death Kimba... I mean Simba" a little something added in when this conspiracy was big news and big trouble for Disney. Kimba Vs Simba. They claimed they had never heard of Kimba The White Lion despite most of them growing up as children when Kimba the White Lion was popular in America. A lot of Disney animators are big anime fans and some get taught in Japan. Check out the link below and see for yourself.

Disney's Atlantis - The lost Empire Vs. Nadia (anime series)
Although both being inspired by the same novel by Jules Verne. And the fact that Disney are trying to be more mature 9like animes) i.e no singing, talking animals and people dying, there still seems to be a lot of similarities between the two, some people might dismiss it but I still think there's something there. Once again Disney had never heard of an anime called Nadia, you'd think they'd check out every anime ever made to make sure it never happened again, but I guess not. See for yourself. Some of the screen shots are just too close.

That's all of them for now. I'm sure Disney aren't stupid enough to do it a 3rd time. Or are they?
One way to get girls into anime is to get them into manga first. My girlfriend who's half chinese grew up with anime, she got all her friends into manga, she would lend them out to everyone. Usually romantic stuff, like Ranma, Lum and Maison Ikkoku. Do you like any Rumiko Takahashi stuff?
Cowboy Bebop is really good I was surprised when I got it, I love Edward (she's female) she's really cute, she's so much like Suu from the manga Love Hina.
Have you ever seen Trigun? That's one of the best comedy/serious anime series ever. Anyone who watchs it loves it. I've got the complete set for that too.
My brother also likes anime, but my sisters were never really that keen on it, but after watching Totoro, i over-heard them talking about how good it was later that night, which brought a nice smile to my face.
Porco Rosso is at the bottom of the list so you might want to buy one from hong kong I think it was, with the english sub.
I've got Cowboy Bebop on dvd. Sheer class is all i can say.

This one is a very rare video, the US dub of the first pre-Ghibli film Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. It's a great anime

This one's another Ghibli film it's okay but Japanese only

But I recommend Ranma and Cowboy Bebop
But it is rumoured that they will be available here on dvd soon.....fingers crossed.
Hey Totoro is this the only place you hang out? It's nice to see another anime fan. You're nicknames a big giveaway. I saw Totoro on Sky along with Porco Rosso, did you catch that one too?
Okay I'm done.
You forgot about My Neighbour Totoro & Kiki's Delivery Service.
Two Miyazaki classics that must be seen by everybody.
(Totoro is officially the least violent animated movie ever)
To Goatboy
Everyone use to call it manga because of a company called Manga Entertainments who started to releases animes on video (dispite in the 80ies a lot of animes being on TV i.e Mysterious Cities of Gold) they called themselves Manga because people have trouble pronouncing anime but manga is pretty easy to pronounced. Now Manga Entertainments they wanted to releases animes that, as they put it "stuff your parents wouldn't want you to watch" and their main audience was teenage boys. Sick perverted animes like some of the ones Manga Entertainment released only make up for less than 2% of all animes ever made. Very few people like them, making them cheap so companies like Manga Entertainments can buy them.

Okay then that's enough about Manga Entertainments lets look at an anime you can get on video/DVD. That also isn't "Dirty cartoon porny-vision".
Princess Mononoke - An amazing anime that Jonathan Ross wanted to dedicate his entire Movie program to(on BBC1). Released and dubbed by Disney. Cast include Gillian Anderson (big anime fan) she's from X-files don't you know? Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Crudup, Minnie Driver.
No sex, hardly any blood an amazing story. You can get in on video and DVD here. http://www.amazon.co.uk or www.blackstar.co.uk

Maison Ikkoku - Another great manga, romance loved by all girls who read it.
Lum - Yet another great comedy romance by the same creator as the two above.
Dragonball - Great comedy manga. Leads on to Dragonball Z which is on TV
