I have always thought myself a very competent gamer, infact I enjoy playing friends at their 'best game' and winning even though I had never played the game before. I started to wonder if I was born with the abilty to hold a control, or simply that I had played games for such a long period of my life, that being crap just wouldn't make sense!?
Thinking more I remembered the first console game I played, it was Mario, however, this was definetely not the first game I became addicted to... that was a game in the name of Duck Hunt. It was a shooter, infact, I am not even going to talk about the game because every member reading this should know what it is. Anyway, to the point...

...I believe that the very first game we enjoy most, is are speciality in the genre later in life. We share a unique bond with that game and continue to want to excel in that type.
Duck Hunt, a shooter. Since that game I remember I wouldn't have had to have played the game before, but I was good at it. Strolling into the arcades my pound coins would somewhat live twice as long as my friends. However I seemed to never grasp a perfect touch on the platformer side, whereas this same friend just breezed through the sidescollers, drinking his orange juice on the way through that straw with the lines on it...*wakes up*
Experience is what makes us human. Is experience what makes us gamers individually? Surely there must be somewhat a link. I don't like footballing games, strange considering I follow and love the sport, however, I know this was one of the last genres I tried in any console game. Could that be the reason I don't like playing it? I think so.
Then another question. If you are just the best of the best, surely there is someone else that is also the best of the best? You therefore cannot exceed past this mark as their is nothing new to experience?
Nobody can be a perfect gamer because then there would be no point in trying to play against them.
Just as I might not be the best at english grammer, and Sniper might not be the best at living. I know I have a special 'eye' for gaming. Are we born with it?
Obviously, some of us are born with better instincts and reactions than others, however forget about genes and 'pastdowngoods' for a sec...
Is it experience that makes us good? or are we born with it?
My dad is terrible at all computer games, so was my mum. Where the hell did I get these hands from then?
Thanks

Every game I have owned bar two has been completed.
However, this was not due to the fact I am a dedicated person. Infact, ten years ago if I kept dying in a level I would give up on the game completely and try to find a new one, it was only three years ago I promised to myself to complete everything I tried to the best of my ability. With this new sense of anti-crapulence I discovered my 'way out' from the terrible way of home life.
Gaming adopted me.
Not the other way around.
It was due to that first game Duck Hunt I am what I am now in the likes of Goldeneye. I am not good at racers, I don't see the point of them, however I do give them a 'spin' and try my best.
Thanks for the nice reply Game.
You know, women are funny things,... but those of the very stupid kind pay thousands of pounds for the sperm of men who have achieved certain things. They buy Lawyer's sperm - Doctor's sperm - Lottery Winners sperm - Musicians sperm - Even the sperm of idiots... like that 'Hey Monkey' guy on TV... you know... the fat one.
So maybe there is evidence to suggest that talents pass through the genes. Now, while I don't believe that we're born with major talents... I do think we're born with certain basic skills that make certain things easier when we're older.
You yourself, Joby, might find that both you and your dad persevere in that which you do... maybe you both like having fun (some people don't) maybe you and your mum both like to do the best you can in everything you do.
Playing games from such an early age could have made you think it was a task or an adventure... if you were quite dedicated to completing the game, through being a dedicated person - you'd have finished the game... and made sure you had. If we apply this to all the games... and add the 'practice makes perfect' theory to it... we can conclude that your will, along with your increasing ability to play games would equal your ability today.
I know that sounds a bit psyciatristic, but you get it, yes?
Basically, some of your characteristics would have made sure you completed each game you played. You play a lot of games, you get better at them. In the end, you're good at games.
