The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Why?
I've been here over 800 days and have contributed several topics worth noting. But yet I've won once. ONCE. And that was with a crappy review of a Star Wars RTS on the PC. Looking back it makes me believe GAD winners are based on politics, not quality. And when I say politics, I don't mean Blair, Bush, Saddam, real-world politics. I mean politics on the forum.
In this day and age, politics are creeping in from every angle. The foul stench of corruption even resides here, in the forum. It seems there are qoutas in play. Targets to hit. It's customary that every Notable must win GAD at least once a month. That the popular regs must win at least once a month. That a at least 4 n00bs must win each month. It's all about image.
I thought I'd win GAD this month. Maybe even twice. Now I fear I won't win once.

My posts were good, I'd offended no-one. Why? WHY?
IT'S NOT FAIR!

Is it? There are 6 billion people on this earth. How many, as a percentage to the nearest two decimal places, are aware that you exist, and would notice if you died?
I'll save you the trouble of working it out: 0.00%

And what do we do when we fall off the horse?

I don't normally enter to win. But this month I REALLY tried.
You enter because you know that you can write a 3,500 word essay in less time than it takes for a football match to transpire.
You enter because your life is empty of any other value added activities, and need to be here to justify your existence on a planet that doesn't care if you live or die.
You enter because you must.
Personally, I'm officially out of the running for GADs. I'm not in the competition. Makes me feel more free to write what I want as opposed to what I think might be in contention for a prize.
Try it, you might like it.
