Not another "now I have your attention posts" this is indeed a post about Sex and gaming. Not another pornographic game post either, in fact I’m on about every day games we play today!

I'm not a major fan of sex, oh yeah of course I am but its more of a private matter for me no need to splash it over magazine covers and other media formats. But over the last few years I have noticed a gradual increase in the amount of innuendo and general sexual acts in computer games here are just a few examples. Dead or Alive 2, big busted females are not uncommon in the gaming industry but this really brought it to the next step. You get pictures of the Dead or Alive girls in Bikini's in both the Dreamcast (need to insert in PC) and PS2 versions and by bumping up your age rating girls become more, *ahem* bouncy.

Conker's Bad fur Day involved a sex scene not visible but audio between a Sunflower and a Bee, and the characters Jugga and Berrie were also wondering around in skin tight or scantily dressed clothes with some humorous remarks from Conker. Fear Effect 2, now come on, lesbians? Why Lesbians? What possessed the game designers to do this? Quit obviously to appeal to the dirty minded teenagers but by doing this are they not ignoring a certain gender? GTA 3 also features Sex we a many of usknow what happens when you grab a prostitute find a nice secluded area and park your car.

So what prompted this sudden change in the way games are designed? Lara Croft that is who, her alone has caused much a stir in the industry with many boys buying the title not necessarily for the gameplay and how many of you noticed how from game to game how she somehow got thinner in some areas but bigger in others? Now Sex is creeping further and further into our everyday games. Who knows what might happen between Mario and Peach in any upcoming title (At the end of Paper Mario, Mario takes Peach to his house!).

Why am I so angry, am I gay or something, not liking these small extras developers are putting in games. Well that isn't the problem it's the fact we are neglecting an entire audience the female gamers. Do Females enjoy watching two females kiss each other? Do they like the fact that Conker is transfixed by Jugga's erm other assists. No I am sure this isn't the case and so for a gaming industry that is supposedly evolving into bigger and better things why do we constantly neglect the female gamers?

I have heard many girls go on about Mario and Zelda, they never talk about Fear Effect and Tomb Raider, I wonder why??? You see Sony isn’t targeting the teenage market they are targeting the Male Teenage market. Nintendo are no saints either "Shall Thou Get the girl or shall thou play like one!" honestly Nintendo! Shoving Sex into mainstream games are all well and good but lets keep it balanced. The woman from Thumbandits pointed out that in Baldurs gate we have ugly men next to beautiful Women definatly a mans game. The fact is she liked it and only criticized it for the fact it aimed at the male gamers. Surly focusing on the male gamers alienates the females, the Woman from Thumbandits enjoyed the game and other Women might as well but unfortunately it doesn't appeal to females so they probably won’t bother, are the developers losing out?

Sigh, here's to the future.

No, sex sells to most men under 40. My grandad's PC (this very one) was riddled with porn when I got it. I once caught him printing out, ehm, "photographs" once. He was 85.

But to whom? Sex is all fine and good but market it as an all round thing not just for the average dirty minded Teenager.

In Tony Hawks 3 you can see right down Private Carrera's top and up her skirt and see her garter belt. Just wiggle the camera around with the right analogue stick. Just something I noticed while watching one of my replays. ;)

sex has always been used to sell products. now it's the turn of games. perhaps eventually there'll be some sort of backlash of apathy against sex in games just as there has been on TV. but i think sexual references in a game aren't necessarily bad if they're done in a humourous way - the GTA3 example being the best.
