Duck vs Cook(y)
In fairness, anyone else probably won't care about the thread, unless you want to.. um.. follow the game on your own board? No?
Okay then...

D2 to D4

There were 4 of them, we were in 3. (2 of 3 first rounders, then the final). 24 hour opening hours, marriage, charity donations and devolution.

They were all semi-open though, so the first speaker got to narrow the definition to a specific area. Some of that was very... creative.

Definitely worth doing if you get a chance though. The difference between the rookies and experienced debators was huge, but you improve very quickly with good guidance and you'll come out with a lot more confidence in public speaking and stuff.

That debate thing sounded like a good time. Wouldn't mind doing somthing like that. What was the debate on?

C2 to C3

Was at an inter varsity debate contest yesterday, the first one I've been in.
It ruled.

Made the final too. Admittedly some teams pulled out, and 4 of the 6 teams did make the final, but still ruled.

This time yesterday I was completely nervous about speaking in front of a room full of people (and taking questions). Now I can deal with it.

Oddly, the most experienced people generally only seemed better to the rokies (there were 4 or 5 fairly inexperienced debators there) in terms of presentation style and structure, rather than content. Which was kind of encouraging...

Spent about 10 hours debating then everyone went out in the evening. Them debators are a bunch of lightweights. But so am I. So it ruled too.

Shall add that.

It was only recently I figured out how to get the car to go up and down. The reason it sinks into the road is because when the car gets above a certain speed, the car moves faster than the time step. (time step is kind of like the game frame rate). And so when that happens the car can move into the ground a bit before the collision is actually detected. I need to improve the collision detection process to fix it. I'm looking into how to do that now.

That rules :^)

The brake lights were a nice touch...

If you are still looking to improve it though, couple of things I noticed:

The 'lap time' doesn't reset at the start of each lap, just keeps counting the total race. Maybe total and lap times on the display?

On the uphill bit on course 2 (with the camera behind the car so you can see it all) the car kind of sinks into the road on the incline.

Just been jumping down high steps. Managed to clear them, it's just not always easy to keep your balance as you land. As my grazes show.
Building up to taking grind shoes down the railing...

New game then:

You'd win in the next few moves, so might as well get it over with. Hopefully next game I'll be able to cencentrate a bit more. *cough* excuses excuses

If you want to have a look at the rubbish I handed in for my diss then ;

www.geocities.com/adamcook6/RacingGame.zip

If you computer is quite rubbish like mine then I suggest running the low-rez version.

Still needs some work mind, and I do have two weeks inwhich I can improve it before my viva.

:)

p.s. You can go first in the new game. If you want another game that is.

Very nice.
Not sure I'd go to $30 for them, but nice none the less.
