Can someone tell me why Flakes(chocolate bar) don't melt and just end up burning.

I know they melt eventually if you leave them out,but I want to know why they burn if you heat them up.

WHY?! WHYYYYYY!?

Combustion is combustion, exposed to a flame or not. It may not give a flame as it burns, bit it will form an oxide of some sort if it's burning.

You need to differentiate between inTRAmolecular forces, and inTERmolecular forces, before you start talking about IMF's

Intermolecular forces are related to bonding between molecules. This will affect the melting point. Not so much whether it burns though.

Intramolecular forces are the forces holding the indivisual atoms together in the molecule. If something combusts, they need to be broken so that an oxide can be formed. It is they that will be more relevant to cumbustion.

My Chemistry teacher would be so proud.

Either that, or she'd tell me my answer was horrendous. That used to happen a lot actually.
