OK, so I'm getting prematurely excited, but City analyst Goldman Sachs is predicting that the PS2 may go as low as £99 around March, and believe that Sony HQ are discussing this possiblity at their HQ as I type this. They (Sachs) said that £129 is probably more realistic, but then that's still almost a 25% reduction on the current R.R.P.

Sony should do this, and they probably will, because Nintendo's offer of a free game with every Gamecube ends in March, which means that the Gamecube too will also come down in price around this time.

In May, XBox 1.5 (or XBox Lite as some like to refer to it) should be announced and launched officially at the E3 show by XBox. For it to compete with the newly reduced PS2 and Gamecube, it would HAVE to launch at around the £100-129 range. Either that or the XBox 1.5 could launch at £159 and then we could all nip out and grab one its the more lumpy predecessors for a couple of ponies.

Which means?

Most of us can afford to sample the delights of more than one console in the future, which means console wars could become a thing of the past!!!

(Except for the poor, uneducated children, who can only afford one console and therefore believe with absolute faith that whichever one they have is the best).

Ramifications for the Future?

What the HELL are we going to argue about in FOG Chat?

why would sony bother?

The market has already proven that people would buy PS2s if they retailed at £400 a piece, came with none of the necessary cables and required a household licence of £150 a year to maintain.
