Well I picked this game up on Friday and I've been playing the hell out of it. ;-))
Its an excellent game - finally goes back to the roots that got its fanbase ! No more of those crappy friendships and babalities.
So far I've opened loads of the coffins in the Krypt and earned all the extra characters, most of the alternate costumes and most of the extra arenas.
Like the way the test your might mini game has been brought back - that and the test your sight games are great little additions to the fighting. :-)
So whose bought the game ? Anyone got any favourite characters they like to use ?

Also found that I'm pretty good with Kano and Kung Lao. ;-)) Don't like Drahmin much though - think hes as crap as he must smell (seeing as there are rot flies flying around him constantly).

To be honest, I dont think Mortal Kombat is all that good. If it wasnt for all the blood, I dont think anyone would really like it.
I picked it up on Friday as well and I also love playing the game. I got Mario Sunshine (thanks SR) and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance on Friday so I am alternating between the 2 and enjoying their varied gameplay. I haven't purchased a new character yet but I have opened up a LOT of Koffins. The best things I have gotten so far are Kano's, Quan Chi's and Kitana's alternate costumes. My favourite characters so far are:
Scorpion - fast and easy to pull of great combos! I was a bit disappointed to see that you can not impale the victim with Scorpion's sword but this hasn't stopped me mastering and enjoying what Scoropion has to offer. The finisher is good although I feel the game lacks in a sense that each character only has one finisher. Maybe in the next Mortal Kombat they will include more which could be unlocked in the Krypt.
Kano - Another character with an excellent set of combo's and moves. Although Kano's combos are harder to pull off and they aren't as quick he still remains my favourite character on the game. His finisher is very good although it would have been nice for him to rip out the heart as well as the Kidneys and Lungs. His weapons are very effective especaiily when combined with a power up although I feel the Black button isn't utilised as well as it could have been.
Quan Chi - Not my favourite character but he still has a lot to offer. His weapon combos are excellent and they enable the player to pull of some powerful hits without reply. I have just finished Konquest with Quan Chi and this has given me a better insight into what the character is capable of and how good his combos are.
I am a bit disappointed with Sub Zero due to the difficulty of his moves and difficult combos. With a bit more practice I would like to master Sub Zero as a character and unlock his second costume which is how many people recognise him. I would have thought that the first costume would have been the hidden one as not many people have seen him without his mask. However I feel that Midway have done this in order to keep people looking for the "cooler" (no pun intended) costume.
I am looking forward to unlocking Raiden and Reptile so at the moment I am scrolling through the Krypt praying that the next Koffin will include one of these characters. I am guessing that the the Koffin which requires 7000 + Ruby Koins will include something pretty impressive although at the rate which I spend them I will never save up to unlock what lies beneath this very costly Koffin.
For anyone who is deciding whether or not to purchase the game do not hesitate. If you are expecting the lightening speed and fluidity of Dead or Alive 3 then you may be disappointed. However next to Dead or Alive 3 this is my favourite fighting game of all time and I am looking forward to mastering every character and their different moves. I swore not to purchase another Multi Platform game but after playing this I am glad that I had faith with Midway and the Mortal Kombat series!
