Well I picked this game up on Friday and I've been playing the hell out of it. ;-))

Its an excellent game - finally goes back to the roots that got its fanbase ! No more of those crappy friendships and babalities.
So far I've opened loads of the coffins in the Krypt and earned all the extra characters, most of the alternate costumes and most of the extra arenas.

Like the way the test your might mini game has been brought back - that and the test your sight games are great little additions to the fighting. :-)

So whose bought the game ? Anyone got any favourite characters they like to use ?
My favourites are...
Kitana
Scorpion
Nitara

Also found that I'm pretty good with Kano and Kung Lao. ;-)) Don't like Drahmin much though - think hes as crap as he must smell (seeing as there are rot flies flying around him constantly).

Anyway, on with the playing. ;-) Anyone who hasn't got the game - this definatly restores the faith in the series and manages to be a bloody good fighting game (sorry about the pun).

Because I am good :D

MKDA is a good game, it's fun but it doens't even come close to beating the original Soul Caliber. It's a coo lgame to sit down with some friends and play, and just kick lumps out of each other and see how much blood you can get.

Yeah buy it it Jericho - its excellent. :-)

As for it not being as good as Soul Caliber 2 - I didn't buy it to compete with the likes of that game. I bought MKDA cause I like decent beat em up games and the MK series offers its own different experience.
Same goes for the DOA series.
I mean, I'll agree straight away that recent MK games have been pretty crud, but this title definatly brings back what MK is all about and does it brilliantly. The added bonus is that the characters basic moves are no longer practically identical like they were before with all characters having 3 different styles to look through and learn.

All the fighters feel different to play as and you'll soon find your favourites you like to use more than the others. I've just been playing through as Mavado and I think his techniques with the hookswords is excellent. Same goes for Hsu Hao, his weapon moves are excellent - I'm just not really into his hand to hand abilities.

If I were to recommend any character for anyone, it'd have to be Kano - he has a decent all round fighting ability that isn't too hard to get to grips with. My favourites stay the same though. ;-)

And hey, its gotta be worth £40 - the boob bounce on the girls in this game easily match that of the DOA games. ;-)) Just joking by the way !

Anyway, I've nearly beaten the konquest and arcade modes with all characters now and I have like 3 more alternate costumes to get. The cooking with scorpion video is superb. ;-))

You mean like Unreal 2 would be the best FPS game of the year? How Metal Gear Solid 2 would push the boundaries of Video Gaming? How the PS2 would be online within 6 months of the consoles launch? How can you talk about a game that hasn't even been released? MKDA is a brilliant fighting game and it offers something which no other game even contemplates. Midway aren't scared of adding ridiculous amounts of blood and fatalities and this is why enjoy MKDA as a game like no other. For me Soul Calibur 2 won't touch upon Dead or Alive 3 and for that style of game I will keep my copy of Team Ninja's superb fighting game. If you have played the game and made a decision about the gameplay then that is fine, however if you are going by what you think the game is like you will never know anything different. MKDA is a superb fighting game and since Dead or Alive 3 it is my favourite.

Thanks for backing me up on the crap items issue

Characters and levels, rest is a waste of time

And they shouldn't have spelt everything with a K, it's overwhelmingly gay

Not at all, I am enjoying looking through the Concept arts and some funny videos like Cooking with Scorpion. There are 9 new characters to unlock along with new levels and 23 alternate costumes and I am enjoying working my way through eech Koffin. The anticipation level increases as each Koffin crashes to the ground and as I am unsure of what it will be next my interest in the game suddenly increases. In terms of originality the Krypt is a superb invention which I feel should be introduced into more and more games on the market. What wouldn't be fair though would be to comment on a game which you haven't experienced fully ;)

The gory kumite style fight is what makes MK famous. Unlike before though, the characters are now very different to play as beyond their special moves and you'll want to pick just a couple of characters you like to master because you'll never remember all the combos for the different characters.

I was really happy to see Kitana in the game - one of my all time favourite MK characters and unexpectedly, I was chuffed to see I could impale characters with her fans. :-)
Unlike the other characters that do this trick, she can do it from a distance as she throws them. :-)
I decided to try Nitara out and I thought she was damn good as well, so I've taken her as a character I'll be playing as regularly. Decent weapons and her fighting styles are very effective.

As for Scorpion, I was also a little disappointed that you couldn't impale opponents with his sword, but he still has those excellent special moves and is pretty sound when it comes to his bare handed styles.
Sub-Zero looks a lot better in his alternate costume and I like his fighting styles. Although his fatality is really good, I do miss the old one of pulling someones head off with the spine hanging. ;-))

Cyrax is another good character - but his combos are bloody frustrating to pull off though. I tend to combine his punches and elbow strikes when using him. ;-)

Excessive amounts of Blood, Great Finishers, Cool Characters, over the top gameplay, 100's of items to unlock, great Multi-Player, the best arcade mode in any fighting game and some excellent FMV's. I don't see how you can get to the conclusion that its only the blood which entices people towards the game. Believe on this when I say that you are missing out on a classic and a return to what made Mortal Kombat the hit that it is today!
