If we can get enough people to agree we may be able to get the kind people at SR to discourage the use of "txt msg" abbreviations etc.
What do you think ?

Just one final thought - this "texting" is simply using shorter forms for words, correct?

Well, isn't CD short for Compact Disc? PS2 short for PlayStation 2? IMHO short for.....well, you get the idea.

No-one complains about using these, so why complain about "text"?

I'm pretty confident that when the original "abbreviations" arrived, people were confused by them, but now they are commonplace......

Now, either I've missed the point somewhere all the line here, or just lost the plot totally, but isn't this a Forum, where people are free to express their own views and opinions?

If someone wants to use this "texting" language, then that's their choice - it really is simply letters arranged on a computer screen that represent that persons views, and I don't see how it matters what form they use to do that.

I really cannot believe that you folks feel the need to post a whole forum in here trying tos top it from happening - it's going to happen regardless, so I would suggest you stop complaining about it and just come to terms with it.

The more you try to make these people not do it, the more determined they will be to do it. It's the way of the world. And just because some choose to do it, does not mean we are ALL doing it!

So, I suggest you all lighten up, maybe curse under your breath when you see a message using "text", and just move on.

Just like the line in the Al Yankovic song, "I hate people posting "Me too" like some brain-dead AOL'er" - this is just the Internet people - not real life.

The trouble with all this is that we`re all typing away happy with our own typing, but notice nobody hear has tried to defend themselves. Instead the txt speakers haven`t bothered reading. It`ll probably stay that way, as if its a special program transmitted from mobiles to our brains that makes us ignore all anti-txtng without even realising.

Is it REALLY that hard to type properly, INCLUDING punctuation? Aside from an awul vision of appearing cool, there can be no explanation for the laziness of text-type.

I HaTe ThIs TyPe(i'll stop now) writing. Its ok for user names as you can reconise them and you dont even need to read them but as a topics its very annoying.

Its amazing how many people think that its ok to write in txt langauge. Some dont use puncation. Even when they right reviews for games and DVD's they use txt talk.

Txt talk is every where, you turn on the TV and they have adverts about txt with abbreviations. Even on Nickledoen I noticed the other day that there TV logo in the evening has L8R on it. Txt will consume us all. We will be writing essays for Uni and school and using txt talk instead of english.

Tell you what else annoys the hell out of me - and is possibly even harder to read than "txt msging" - is what I call 'alternate capitalisation'.

You know what I mean? It's wHeN PeOpLe WrItE lIkE tHiS.

Damn annoying.

There's a subject in the FoG Chat by 'pandaeyes'...

Is rEaLiTy tHe nEw gAmE?

Took me about three attempts to read it properly.

Its a tough one to implement ain`t it. Also, its really not just text message replies that need to be removed, but also replies without punctuation, e.g. -

i`m getting it for xmas its great i will also get dropship next year do you know how much it costs
