harking back to your earlier post, fibre optic cables do vary in quality. The quality of the glass, and diameter of the cable can radically increase the price and ( as I was told be a rep at work) the image quality if you are using it for imaging. But for hifi, you'd never spot the difference.

Or ruined hi-fi equipment!
My DVD player manual states that you should never turn on the digital output unless connected to a digital amp, as it can result in a loud sound which can damage both your hearing and equipment!
Can't remember if the PS2 manual states the same.

this is kinda for mr coates since the same my hifi amp I

Coaxial should be superior (due to not having to convert from electrical to light back to electrical) but my Yamaha (DSP-AX 620) has 4 optical inputs and only one coax so the PS2's optical connection suits me fine!

is it me, or is there a hit and miss element with dvds and games having to select hardware options to get the 'best' sound ?
If your tv, dvd player, and hifi aren't setup perfectly, its a good 5 mins of remote thumbing to get it all going. Pc's are pretty much all plug amd play, why not hifi ?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the tips, I'll be trying it directly
