Erm... sorry, Acclaim, but that is complete BS - other games use it just fine (SSX Tricky springs immediately to mind).
Would Sony really include such a feature for games if the machine wasn't capable of utilising it? And if the PS2 couldn't handle it (which as I've already explained is untrue), why did they even bother including a DD5.1 test menu?
What they mean is, they were behind schedule with the game and were facing a "late submission" fine, as documented in two consecutive issues of PSM2 magazine. This more than likely means that they didn't have time to include the DD5.1 audio.
Actually, you can reply to their e-mail and quote me on those last 3 paragraphs if you wish.
I let you know what/if any response I get.
I might do a wookiee and get everyone to send them a mail.
"Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for your e-mail regarding Burnout.
We have referred this question to our head office who have replied as
follows:
The game does have Dolby Digital aspects in it, however you cannot use them
during the actual gameplay due to the limited processing power of the PS2.
Unfortunately, nothing can be done about this.
Thank you for contacting Acclaim Technical Support. Please be sure to
delete all previous correspondence when replying. This will help us to
process your response in a more timely and efficient manner.

At last someone can confirm that I'm not the only one.
I did get a reply from Acclaim in the end which frankly was a pathetic excuse (the post on here was something like 'Well what's the point?').
I believe that they should not have included the Dolby Digital logo as the game does not include anything of worth in terms of DD sound.
In the special menu it works fine, but back in the game its back to dolby prologic.
Let me know if you find out any more.

Oh yes, I'm purely talking about in terms of audio - visual I couldn't really comment on.
