Help. My hard disk has died today. Making a wicked crunching noise instead of starting. Windows seems to think it is missing a partition...!

anyway. its dead. i think. Just looked at price list for a data recory agency, and they want about £900. hmmm.

Any ideas? - Turbo? Tyla?

i cant even get

The fact is, if it won't read you can't do anything. I suggest taking it in to a specialist hardware shop and get them to have a look at it, maybe an SR shop would do. They mat have some tools that will allow them access to it.

Unfortunately it won't be okay.

To have any chance or repairing the drive you'll end up losing everything on it. It sounds like it's past the stage of recovery, and your unlikely to get your files.

It's worth looking around for a while though. You may find a way of getting at least SOMETHING that's important off the hard-drive.

I couldn't care less about the drive itself although the info on there is worth lots to me. Anyone got any ideas or know any programs that might be able to get the data back off it.??

It's definately worth taking this advice. If your HDD was making strange noises it's best to check things inside your computer before you go formatting your hard-drive.

If you don't have any success though, formatting is a good idea. After all, if your going to have to buy a new hard-drive, you might as well try all possibilities to try and fix it yourself.
