The PS2 allows you to copy CD's onto minidisc using the digital out, For some reason Audio CD-R's make my minidisc deck flash "CANNOT COPY". The sound is still going into the deck because you can see it on screen and it's coming out the speakers ;-)

It's the same with DVD's but most PS2 games don't allow any of the soundtrack to be copied such as GT3. However SSX Tricky is on the DVD format and if you go into "Jukebox" you can play the entire soundtrack which DOES allow you to copy from the digital out :-D

Is this Copy Protection on the actual disc making the PS2 stop the user from making copies, but then how is the sound still going through (???)

any ideas :-)

This is a tricky business.

Many games and CDs have code written into them which stop people from recording the music. However, this code is only transmitted through optical digital connections. I believe the rules are:

You can copy music to a MD or CD-R(W), but then THAT copy cannot be copied.

A workaround?

Use phono cables. Simple.

do you get sound out the output as i was thinking that the digital output only worked with DD5.1 or DTS? can it out put analogue audio through it to?

to me it sounds like it's got some kind of audio macro vision. cool (i think?)

why would you want to listen to game music anyway i know a way round it as i use an audio mixer to my hi-fi if i take it out and put it in the line in on the pc instead i can do it that way.

'fraid its 'apparently ' alot easier than that.

the problem is that both cd and dvd format games are readable in home users pcs

maybe creating discs which aren't readable in a pc cd/dvd rom drive would be a start, or getting the ps2 to not accept cdrom/xa cdr discs.

just a thought

I'm sure it's easy enough to copy PS2 games with time... all you need is to hardware hack the PS2... that is, to decode the signals coming from the output.

A fave for bedroom DC coders was to take the DC output, put it into your computer, and code it directly.

i like to say
that is good that you cannot copy the game or the music
and we do know that there are some that could
first of all the game never is the same as the original
and second-if there wasnt people who copy the games maby the games was cheeper
and about the sound-who need just the sound without a game

obvious way to reduce piracy by a small bit is to reduce game prices. i mean £45 for a game come on that's too much
