This topic will hopefully allow poor souls (ie me) to have some more experianced computer nerds fix thier computer worries. So, anyone else with problems post them, and everyone see what they can do.
Whatever, I would *really* appriciate some help. And I don't want any smart-***e telling me to buy a Mac.
My (computer) problems:-
1. Windows thinks that I want to have multiple users on the computer. Whenever I turn the PC on, a little box comes up wanting me to log on as a user, like what they have at schools. Is there any way to stop this happening?
2. Whenever I try to open the CD/DVD-ROM drive by pressing the button on the big box thing (you know, the main tower bit of the computer, I've forgot its name), the bloody thing waits about a minute before ejecting the disc. However, if I eject it using buttons on the computer screen (like in my DVD playing software), it works perfectly.
3. Are the circumferences of DVDs supposed to be slightly jagged, or is my computer nibbeling the disks?
4. My internet connection trys to connect me to the internet every couple of minutes without me asking it to. It doesn't matter what program I'm in, or what the computer is doing - this always happens. Stop it. Please.
5. If I click on a shortcut to go into any microsoft word 97 document that I have already saved, the computer freezes. I have to get documents up by first going into Word and clicking on 'Open'.
6. I borrowed a USB Iomega Zip 100 drive from a mate. I have downloaded drivers and stuff, but apparently windows doesn’t detect a drive. What are the most common mistakes?
7. I can’t get the ‘Shreks Re-voice studio’ thing to work on the Shrek DVD.
8. When I turn the PC on, one of those boxes with a red cross on the left comes up, saying that ‘Rundll32’ has performed an illegal operation. I click on details, and it says the following…

Okay, you need to provide Windows with one user and then it will automatically log in as that one. I take it that you are using a pre-XP version of windows? If you go to the relevant section in control panel then you can get more detailed instructions.

That's a strange one... It sounds mechanical...
3. Are the circumferences of DVDs

Computers don't generally nibble discs, but I wouldn't worry too much as the outer area of the DVD is the last bit to be written anyway. There's less chance of anything being damaged or not working then if you get a scratch near the middle or something like that...

Sounds like you need to look at your dial up network settings. It can be a tedious trawl, but go through all your internet settings and everytime you see something about automatically dialling right click on it and go to "What's this" see what the option changes and then make a decision on whether to change it.

Sounds like your using a really old computer if you have word 97.. maybe it's time to update.. I hear SR do darn fine deals on new PCs :-)
6. I borrowed a USB Iomega Zip 100 drive from a mate. I

I seem to remember there being a problem with those drives.. If it's USB then windows should detect something. Make sure it's turned on when you start windows.. things like that.
7. I can’t get the ‘Shreks Re-voice

Sounds like your computer ain't up to spec

I had that one, go to the Start button, go to programs and see what's in the start up folder. Chance's are one of those programs is starting up and the Dll file that is being problematic belongs to one of them. If it isn't then I probably had a different dll file going wrong..

That's definitely in your start up folder. Go to start up and get rid of it. the start up folder contains files that windows is meant to run on start up, ie the program that puts a winamp icon in your start bar tray, and things like that. I used to put dll files in the start up folder on my dad's laptop when he was being mean and then he would think there was something wrong with it and have to be nice to get me to fix it.. :-)

Just make sure you don't use the chat up line, "would you go out with me for a billion pounds?" The answer is presumably yes, then say "would you got out with me 10p?", the answer is "What type of girl do you think I am?!", then say "I've already established what type of girl you are, now we're just settling on a price!"
Don't do that. You might regret it.
Hope all of that was of some help :)
