There have been many accusations (mainly from Sony fans) that Nintendo is for babies, so this is my view on this matter.

People think Nintendo are for babies mainly because most of their famed mascots are cartooned in some way and from this people immediately assume that these games are for the younger audience of gamers. But this is not necessarily true. For a game to be for a young audience the look of the game doesn’t matter very much (apart from things like Resident Evil), it’s more the difficulty of the game. Cartooned games with a high difficulty level aren’t for babies.

Take Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64, this game is a very cartoon like game with no blood, gore or anything else like that but it is hard to complete. It’s hard enough going through all the levels and getting power stars from various tasks you must perform. But then when you have finally completed the game by beating the final boss you don’t stop there. You must find more power stars until you get to 120, this includes finding secret area’s in the main H.Q. of the game, the castle, and getting 100 coins on each level, which is one of the toughest things you’ll come across when it comes to some levels.

There are many more games like this; Banjo, Zelda and loads more. Then we come to Zelda games for the N64, which are not only more realistic graphics and scenes but also really hard task’s, boss’ and levels. Young gamers will play this but won’t get very far. Even little things like the horse racers are quite hard.

Also when people accuse Nintendo of making baby games, notice NINTENDO make baby games. It isn’t just Nintendo, it is the other people that make games for Nintendo consoles such as Rare. But as proved when Rare made masterpieces such as Conkers BFD, the amazing Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, these games aren’t for babies.

If this is what makes a games maker for babies, couldn’t Sony be for babies? Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and more. But like Nintendo they have serious games like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. All consoles have some kind of cartooned image in their games, but why is Nintendo hit with false accusations?

But all that I’ve said is now the past. Nintendo actually are doing what they’ve been accused of on the GameCube by making some of their longest running titles such as Zelda and Mario a lot easier and shorter. These games include Luigi’s Mansion, Zelda: GameCube and other long running Nintendo titles. But the future of the GameCube is looking up for the older audience with exclusive Resident Evil games, Eternal Darkness and hopeful remakes of Perfect Dark and Conkers BFD.

With Resident Evil going exclusive this may be why Nintendo are making Mario, Zelda and Luigi games shorter so they can hit a wider audience. People looking for an easy game, Luigi’s mansion, people looking for a great looking game Star Wars Rouge Leader: Rouge Squadron II, people looking for a scary, gore fest game, Resident Evil, people looking or multiplayer fun, Mario Kart: GameCube. A huge range of games for the Nintendo audience is coming.

here we go again eh Strafex, hehe ;-)

This doesn't mean older gamers won't get any enjoyment out of it, heck a stunning platformer which never fails to entertain and all that with no loading times, nice change on a Sony machine and I think alot of people were wanting it (Spyro was made for that reason alone) Few missed opertunitys on the humor side but otherwise Jak and Daxter's a cracker :-D

If you like this kind of game then Nintendo awaits however I'm in the middle of Silent Hill 2 and it reminded me the big difference between Sony and Nintendo. It's down to taste really, nothing to do with "nintendo for babies" however I still think adults will get more out of Final Fantasy + Resident Evil than they would out of Crash Bandicoot and vice versa for the young ones :-)

So the biggest most challenging game on the PS2 is for kids?
You grown-ups seriously suck at games, that's why!!! ;-D

I have babies.

Well Malibu's hardly a baby anymore, but Georgia is only just over 8 months.

I hand her a pad, when playing a Nintendo game, and no, she doesn't play, she chews the pad.

Babies have no interest in games.

I think CTR is quite good for the PS1, but then again it is just a copy of Mario Kart like Konami Krazy Racers...

Actually, most of them have stopped now, after playing Jak and Daxter.

It turns out that if these Cartoony Adventures are on the PS2 then they're "actually really great!!"
Those damn dirty biased Scumbags!! :-D

And no, I'm not just the same.

I don't think that there's any other PS2 games that I've given a serious slating...

I think Conkers BFD was Rares way of saying "We don't JUST make cute, cudly games you know!".

Conkers BFD was a way of showing people that not all furry animals were goody, goody boys.

Conkers BFD is the kind of South Park of video games. It has 'adult' humour in it, but it is really that kind of school boy, toilet humour kind of stuff that kids and teens find funny, but don't want their parents to see...

But still, South Park is deemed 'adult' (by its rating and when it is shown) so why shouldn't we deem Conkers BFD adult?

anyways, that one is a pretty complex argument to be getting into... it probably needs a whole topic!

pb did a 'template' post giving a template for a 'console war' topic, and this one seems to (kind of anyway) follow the template.

except for the various stupid phrases he wrote as options depending on which console you were talking about
