There has always been a problem when it comes to a game series, not all but quite a few suffer this problem and it is when a game doesn’t correspond with its prequel’s, it gets us gamers a little confused right?

Lets take Paper Mario a storming game brilliant and I have just finished it, what I admire about all the 64 bit Mario games is Peach’s castle they are always the same, compare, Mario Kart, Tennis, 64 and Paper Mario the castle is basically identical. Now what’s the problem here then? Well in Mario 64 the castle was in the sky right? So how come in Mario Kart is a nearly identical one next to a racetrack? That doesn’t work and in Paper Mario Peach’s castle is on the outskirts of Toad Town again this doesn’t correspond with previous adventures, also inside the castle in Paper Mario the door that normally leads to the basement in Mario 64 is now a kitchen??? What is going on, Bowser’s castle is easy to explain his castle blows up all the time but Peach’s castle never blows up so what causes these changes?

It isn’t as if these are all separate adventures and are not supposed to correspond with the others as in Paper Mario Bowser comments on how Mario beats him all the time linking all Mario games together in one swoop. What you need to do for these anomalies is to have a little imagination! Peach is a princess for Christ’s sake and the Mushroom kingdom is one hell of a big place Toad Town is an area never seen before in a Mario game its because Mario’s never needed to go there before, considering all the different places Mario has traveled to in all of his games it shows us that the Mushroom kingdom is absolutely massive. So Peach who governs the land needs to be in many places at once so therefore has many separate castles around the kingdom this makes much more sense now!

What still confuses me is how come Mario lives in a small house in some games such as Paper Mario but in Mario Land 2 he owns a castle (Wario stole it remember?), same reason? Possibly, a plumber’s wages isn’t enough to buy more than one castle so it makes sense that his other residential spots are smaller houses.

So now lets move on to the granddaddy of all confusion Zelda, I mean does this make any sense at all? How come Link and Zelda never seem to know each other but appear in many adventures together, its not the only thing that confuses me about these games. N64 now NGC placed the theory that there is several Zelda’s and Link’s around the world, their theory is all well and good but mine is a little different. We all know good old Link travels through time quite a lot, time travel isn’t and easy thing to understand but it is possible that throughout the time line there are several link’s all over the place, when he went back in time at the end of Ocarina Of Time isn’t Ganondorf therefore still alive? Did link go too far that Zelda doesn’t remember him? That is possible and was it possible that when Link went forward in time he might of banged into himself somewhere in Hyrule? Due to Link’s time traveling ways we could have 3 Links in the present, a few in the past and a bucket load in the future.

The Legend of Zelda is exactly that, a Legend not Legends, because there is more than one link (although they are the same link there’s just more than one of them) all having separate adventures but only one of them would of happened if you understand what I mean (if you do could you tell me so I can understand what I mean). But that Theory may not be necessary in the next few years, we all known Shigsy claimed that Ocarina of Time was the first in the Series and Majora’s Mask happened soon after but his next game looks oddly like the original Zelda! Could he be remaking the series again so each storyline corresponds with each other? Maybe in the Legend of Zelda on the Gamecube Zelda will know who Link is (if she’s in it at all) unlike the NES outing, then the stories may make a bit more sense.

This could well happen, another confusing title Resident Evil looks to be doing just that, people claim Barry died in the first as they failed to save him then why is he in Resident Evil 3 and Gaiden? So many Storyline conflicts going on, so many holes in the plot. Now we all know that the Resident Evil series is being re-done and Capcom is in fact going back to the storyline part and the original game will be 50% bigger. Now Capcom can make their individual games correspond easier with each other and make the mystery of Resident Evil 0 a lot more erm mysterious. So if Capcom are going back to their roots and ironing out any problems, re-writing the script so to speak then could Shigsy be planning a similar thing with his Zelda adventures?

If this is to be the case the world will be a less confusing place.

Here’s to the Future

I thought Ganondorf escaped... im still hoping they are re-writing the stories!

Oha dna s for Star Wars does the quality of the ships have anything to do with money, how much does naboo have compared to the rebel alliance? Dark side was quite posh, anyway merry christmas!

Ah, but Dringo you missed crucial point in Zelda:OOT. At the very end when you banish Ganondorf to the other realm, he tells Link "You're ancestors will pay for this" (or something to that effect). I think this was basically Nintendo owning up to their mistake, and admitting that for the storylines to correspond there must have been multiple Links and multiple Zelda throughout time. (coincidence huh?)

Anyway, with the Mario games does it really matter? They are not the kind of games to be picked over, they are designed to be fun! It is like in Star Wars: Episode 1 they have more advanced ships than in the original trilogy (which happened AFTER Episode 1!!!)

But series which have multiple plot routes, or where you can play as one of two characters (or sides) like in the Command and Conquer series, the game creator must make it clear at the beginning of the sequel as to the 'official' outcome of the last game, which they are using for the sequel. Otherwise... it just wouldn't make sense would it???
