I honestly noticed no difference between a 192kbps recording of Once a Part of Me and the CD version - I'm sure some people can, but especially considering the price difference between the options, it's a damn good deal.

MP3s are low quality by definition. MP3 is a lossy compression.

Rob, come down here, Listen to these 5.1s with no distortion, superb bass and reams of mp3s to blast through them. Damn sight better than the ones on our stereo, which aren't bad themselves, more powerful amp there.

hhmm, they just opened a shop in my town, they sell pap, good dj needles though.

also, i think PCs are great for music, sadly I waste a lot of time planeted infront of my pc, I love music so it's an obvious mixture, + I can't be bothered to buy stuff so i download MP3s, good enough quality, shame it wastes my hdd although if you turn them into .rm files they save a lot of space, also pcs are used for making music at my college, although the pcs suck doesn't matter (stoopid college technicians), we're getting some Dell's soon, should be a little better.

Don't listen to music on your PC. Seriously, don't. It wasn't designed to. You'd be infinitely better off with a hi-fi. Probably cheaper too, but much better.

I am looking for new speakers. Is the FPS 1600 for £50 a good deal, considering that I mostly play games and my sister likes to listen to music quite loud ojn the PC. I have a (don't laugh) SBPCI512 sound card from the good boys at Creative.

The bass on Track 12 of Bad Religion: All Ages resonates witht he frequency of my bath water while I'm in it. It was really quite scary, especially with my massive speakers. I need sub-woofers though...

bigger the better, but it really depends on what your using your pc for, if it's games, big speakers kick aris, but don't give amazing sound...

multimedia speakers are great for films, surroundsound n al, but they seriously lack bass, so making music on them (main point in spending loads of money on a soundcard) is pointless really, unless the music has no bass and your writing music for films n such a like...but ven in that case you should get better full range speakers.

sadly I like music, I have 4 types,

loud 150W speakers tweater cone and sub (doesn't sound like much but they're good)

studio speakers (80w very nice, short tweeter and mid/bass speaker)

multimedia speakers (20w came with th pc, pretty much had their day)

headphones, no idea on the wattage, but the best, get a good set of technics, seiheiser (I think) or some industry standard ones, they can get pricey around £50+ but they're soooo worth it, you get privacy, clear sound due to the closed cups, good bass on more expensive types + you can hear all the gritty bits you normally wouldn't hear on speakers.

to be true, i've got some JVC (£15 from Dixons) which are my weapons or headphone of choice at the mo.

hhmm, beware most domestic speakers have preset frequencies to make a more pleasant or false sound, so get as many types as you can, or get some good full range speakers for around £100) call me a fool, since you only had a budget of £50 to start with, but something to work on maybe.

if that fails, just get a cable from your pc into your home hifi. you can get a cable for around £3
