It's alright.

Not the best film I've ever seen, not even the best film I've seen this year.
But it's alright.
Needed more monkeys and boobs.

Seriously though, it was alright.
I'm not even slightly a fan of beardy fantasy stuff, pixies make me angry. But I enjoyed this one. Don't have a burning need to see it again but it's certainly worth a watch.

Good things:
Christopher Lee throwing down in a wizard fashion.
Viggo Mortensen whupping orc-ass with fire.
The Balrog
The Cave Troll
The overall imagery - incredible effects that don't look like effects and sets.
The Mines of Moria. These things are MASSIVE

Bad things:
Liv Tyler - What was the point of her being in it? For 1:15 screen time?
Sean Astin's big fat ginger face
Elves - They look poncy and look like they've escaped from a Poison video.
Agent Smith. In drag.

--

I think my viewing was ruined by the utter chimps in the cinema.
These are people that clearly went because it was an evening out and The Sun called it "one of the best movies of the year".
They had no idea of what the film was about, had never heard of Lord of The Rings and just fidgeted because Bruce Willis didn't blow anything up.
Two blokes behind me stood up and said "What a crap ending. They didn't get rid of the ring".
After a brief chat with them, I learned that they had never heard of the book, had no idea there are another 2 films to come and came because "there were swords in it, like Braveheart and stuff"

I nearly set them on fire.

So, Fellowship of The Rings.
It won't cure famine, it won't bring world peace.
It's a good movie with pixies and elves and beardy wizards riding eagles.

It's alright.

I'm here because the work of an Internet content guy is never finished. And for the record, I think you're all geeks. Discuss.

LOL

If it's any help, I dress up as Captain Chaos and run about shouting "DUN DUN DAAA!" and saying "Been a cop long?"

You called me a geek, and for that I am enternally grateful, it provides a talking point. You see, when Goatboy and me get into another argument, for it will happen, we are opinionated, he can use it as an argument point :-D

You are work today because you are going to tell me whether my LotR review on Wednesday won a GAD. Go on, it'd be a nice Christmas present for me ;-)

No, seriously, why are you at work today? I thought last date for Christmas deliveries was 20th, so you aren't needed, surely?

Let's just straighten things out.

Lord of the Rings - great story, excellent books (apparently) and a seemingly above average film (apparently). Some people (no-one in particular) take it too seriously and dress up like Orcs and Hobgoblins - these people cannot argue the fact they are geeks, much like obsessive Star Wars fans cannot argue the same fact. I took part in an experiment last night in which I opened a random page of FOTR to see how nerdy the first line sounded, and it came up trumps every time.

Still, I'm hardly the right person to listen to am I? i haven't seen the film or read the books. Why are you listening to me? Why am I at work today?

That's alright Styrke, no offence taken whatsoever.

We had an argument, not a fight.
And for the record, I did like the movie.

Personally I can argue with you all day, because it's not personal

I love arguing about movies with

Fair enough, I perhaps allowed it to get a bit personal. That's why I apologise. I took offense, shouldn't have, I'm sorry.

But LotR still rules ;-)

Well, I don't know what to say, my, I'm blushing ;-)

I would like to take this point to clarify one thing. I

Yep, me too, that's how I got into K Smith films. Seen Ghost World, by the way?

As for hanging on Goatboy's every word.. I admit to
> posting more in Goatboy discussions but that's only because they tend to be more

I didn't mean you. There are regulars, some notables and a staff member that do follow Goatboy's opinion, and that can get annoying at times. It's fine for him to have his own opinion, and his opinion on the war I respect immensely, but sometimes people follow him without thinking. 's not his fault, I apologise, I overreacted.

I think that secretly you are nursing a

LOL! That's it, I have Dogma Withdrawal Syndrome. It starts lightly at first, y'know, but I'm sorta looking around, getting nervous, thinking perhaps K Smith fans are..*whisper* coming for me...

In answer to all this, I overreacted, I realise that now. Consider this an apology.MrHappy, the comments about you looking down on people mainly came from that Beastie Boys thread where Ant, and some others, said they didn't know who they were, and you got a bit holier-than-thou because of it. That just got me a bit angry. So I'll apologise to you too, and to Goatboy. I am a LotR geek, what can I say? Now if you'll excuse me, there's some pixies who have my mail order authentic dwarf hair beard for me, and they get snappy if I leave them at the door for too long.

Lol, I don't think that will make him feel much better about the situation. {:)

And just to sort of clarify what I said earlier, nice arguments are cool. I mean, on the Life forum there's been lots of religions debates-usually people disagreeing with me but I have my own beliefs, as do everyone else. Of course I would like all of you to become Christians, and I have tried, but you can't change someone, unless you're a really close friend who you see all the time. Obviously, we're friends on here, but I expect I've never actually met any of you in person.

On the subject of music, well, I didn't listen to any for about 6 months. All the garage crap got me down and music stayed out of my life. Got the latest Bon Jovi album (yeah, laugh if you want to,) and I loved it. Then, I heard a Sum 41 song on the radio (never heard of them before then) and decided to get the album. I really like that too, some great songs on there.
But sometimes, like Stryke, I haven't wanted to post my feelings on music or what my favourite music is, because people like Bon Jovi and Sum 41 are quite well known, and quite mainstream.

Films?? I'm willing to say this, I think Episode 1 is a brilliant movie. Best Star Wars movie so far. I'll get slated for that opinion, but it's mine, and I also know a lot of other people loved Episode 1.

LOTR?? Hoping to see that soon, not sure what I'll think of it. Not usually into the fantasy stuff, but you never know.

One more point-when I was younger every time I went to my Gran and Grandad's house, we listened to the Hobbit on cassette. And very good it was too. {:)
