My first is in biscuit but never in cake
My second's in awesome but not in great
My third is in mother but not seen in dad
My fourth is in sunny but never in sad
My fifth is a vowel found in water not creek
My sixth is found only in one day of the week
My seventh's two of three that you learn when you're young
My eighth's not in song but it's there when it's sung
My ninth's in eleven and twelve, not thirteen
My tenth is in island and river, not stream
My eleventh's in precious and secret and paste
My twelfth is in phantom and spectre and haste
My whole stalks the night in a quiet dreamlike state
With no memories the next day of being out late

You put the 9 lb weight on one side and the 1 lb and the 3 lb on the other side.
One side is therefore 5lb heavier than the others.

You put on weight on one side (1lb) and use the other weight to balance it out on the other side (3lb)

Comprendez?

So you be able to make each weight by balancing the scales out.

Damn you Ros, I was nearly there if I hadn't been sidetracked by an idiot on the phone.

Ah well....

I dont get that.

If you can weigh in 1lb increments, how do you weigh 5lb etc with this?

And is it me, or does that add up to 39lb?

Ros, you better get in here and start catching up, it's 3 a pieve to you and unbeliever...

I have just bought a simple balance scale, one with a pan on each end of a beam with the pivot point in the middle, so that when I place objects of equal weight on each pan it balances. The salesman only provided me with four weights to go with it, but with these four weights he insisted that I can measure any weight from 1 to 40 lb. in 1-lb. increments. The four weights together weigh 40 lb, he told me that much, but what do the four weights each weigh?

10/10
Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
