My third is in mother but not seen in dad
My fourth is in sunny but never in sad
My fifth is a vowel found in water not creek
My sixth is found only in one day of the week
My seventh's two of three that you learn when you're young
My eighth's not in song but it's there when it's sung
My ninth's in eleven and twelve, not thirteen
My tenth is in island and river, not stream
My eleventh's in precious and secret and paste
My twelfth is in phantom and spectre and haste
My whole stalks the night in a quiet dreamlike state
With no memories the next day of being out late

You could say it is a riddle in itself! Think of it this way.

Take Rabbit across
Drop it off, go back
Take Fox across
Drop it off, pick up rabbit (again), and go back
Kick Rabbit out and take cabbage across
Leave cabbage with Fox
Go back
Collect Rabbit.
Take Rabbit across to the other two
Done?

Correct.
There are two ways of doing it.
One is to pose the question in the form 'What would the other statue say If I asked...'
In which case you can guarantee that whoever you ask, you will get a lie.
The other is to ask 'What would you say if I asked...'
In which case you can guarantee that whoever you ask, you'll get the truth.

Ah, a little trickier then.
I'll have a bash after my, remarkably interesting, 'Distributed Operating Systems' lecture.

Only that he meant to say 'only one can go at a time' ;)

I can never remember this.
Dont you ask one, "what would the other statue say if i asked him which door was safe" and then go down the opposite one?
Drop them off
Go back
Take rabbit accross
Or am I missing something?
Whilst we're here, here's another old puzzle that some might know the answer to:
There are two talking statues in front of two doors. One statue always tells the truth, and the other statue always lies. One door leads to certain death, the other to safety. You are allowed to ask one question, and you must pose the same question to each statue. The question must be answerable in one word.
What question do you ask, in order to be sure you'll choose the right door?
