I've enjoyed some of Sony's games, but at the same time, the Playstation brand has been the most unreliable piece of hardware I've ever owned. I had to replace my old PS1 around 5 times, which is pretty disgusting. My PS2 also had to be replaced. One Japanese developer (Resident Evil creator) came up with the statment that the PS2's amazing sales figures are down to people having to replace their consoles and Sony adding these to the overall count. To be honest I don't think this is really that far fetched after my experience with the Sony consoles.
People need to look at true quality rather than just blindly follow anything with the name Playstation stamped on it. Thats why I like the combo of X-Box and GC - together they provide the best of Western and Eastern games. :-)
Of course GTA isn't in there, but X-Box is getting Mafia which is a similar style game and lets face it, if a developer wants to, it wouldn't be too hard to bring out a rival to GTA that cpould do a bloody good job in bettering it. GTA is a good game but I bet I could create a topic on the ideal GTA style experience and loads of people on here could soon come up with tons of ideas that should have always been in GTA and could be put into another similar game.
I can't see why PS2 is still top of sales charts across the world - annoying, as I really don't think there's really anything good on it at the moment, and there hasn't been for the past few months either.
What the GC offers is of course the old Nintendo favourites that are exclusive to the console. It all depends on what games you want and how you think you can fit things in on your limited budget.
If you stick to the major titles, then there is room for both consoles. I mean I'm sure you can pick out the major titles you want for your X-Box from the overall group, this will leave spaces for the Ninty exclusives such as Metroid, Zelda, etc.
The X-Box and GC will be a good combination because between them (the X-Box more so), they have plenty of the PS2's major titles. X-Box provides the more realistic games and PC style games along with an excellent backing by the likes of Sega and Tecmo to provide some damn good titles and of course the name Halo and its sequel can't be forgotton.
Then you have the GC. This offers the more Japanese and classic Nintendo style of gaming with popular games such as Mario, Zelda, F-Zero and Metroid. There also seems to be a good number of fun RPG games on the way such as Harvest Moon, Skies Of Arcadia, Final Fantasy and an apparent sequel to Secret Of Mana.
So overall having these 2 consoles will be a very good combination as you get basically all the different styles of games over the 2 formats. For me, at least most multiformat titles I buy will be the X-Box version. But even then I'm still coming up with a list of around 20 games that I want for the GC going into 2004.
With limited funds, I recommend you own both consoles, but stick to the major titles and shed some of the lesser games you're looking at.
Hope this helps a little. ;-)
Metroid Prime is arriving though, courtesy of SR and Gameaday. :-D
Do you see any real difference in their performance graphically, does cube outshine the box in the graphical sense?
I want a cube for the classic games which I enjoyed on previous nintendo machines and am debating whether or not to get one along side my box.
I wouldn't use the cube as my primary gaming machine it would be for some of the exclusives, e.g. mario sunshine, metroid prime, zelda etc, as I am awaiting broadband so I can hook up on Live! for my xbox.
At just £78.99 or sumthing similar to that, getting a free game and memory card, what would you do? I have a huge list of games to get for my xbox in the year ahead, but am very tempted to get a cube, but of course it is financially a little demanding, being only 16 without a job and all.
Is the baby cube as sweet as it looks?

I felt like grabbing the controller off him and doing it myself.
Metroid Prime rules, wait until you get the boost ball upgrade, then you can go up half-pipes.
