i have very limited money but i am able to purchase either a gamecube or a ps2. As the gamecube will be more recent do u beleive it will have a longer console life than the ps2? the ps2 has impressive games in the lineup but not many speculations for the coming years. hpwever the gamecube has a poor release date lineup so which is wiser to buy? also i already have a dvd player so does that take away some off the ps2s charm over the gamecube?

The Game Cube doesnt have larger capacity disks. It has small disks which contain 1.5 Gigabytes. PS2 uses DVDs which hold 4.7 Gigabytes, and the other types hold more. The maximum DVD capacity is just under 18 Gigabytes and the PS2 can read it.
what i ment by specualtions was that they are covering all genres of games but not trying anything new or risky and not taking any steps forward
the xbox is faster better graphically and the gamecube has moved onto smaller larger spaced disks and flash memory even the ps2s controller is the same as the origainal. but aside from this the ps2 is the console i will most likely shell out for

I would say go for a PS2, the games are great that are out at the moment and the line-up coming in 2002 looks just as good if not better!
The gamecube on the other hand is not out until april/may next year so why wait?, when you can have a PS2 with great games and a built in dvd player, something which the gamecube does not offer, and the ps2 is only £199.
I don't know where on earth you heard about the lack of speculations for the ps2's future but i would put my money on the PS2 winning and lasting the longest.
There is no better time to get a ps2, than now!
