> NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ps2 is so much superior 2 the GC.
I said it once, I'll say it again....
You really expect an unbiased veiw in here?!
that's why i don't particularly want a gamecube....
and have a ps2...and want an xbox
I'm sticking with my PS2 as I feel it has games that cater to my tastes. I'm definately keeping an eye on the GAMECUBE, as an ex-ninty I can't wait to see if Nintendo get it right (as in SNES right, not N64 right)!!!
If it looks to be kicking some bottom, then I may pick one up later down the line (mmmm Zelda!)
X-Box, I just plain don't want. If I'm travelling I'm generally not wanting to play on my Snes, so I don't need a GBA and Dreamcast is dead!!!!!!! DEAD!!!!!!!
Mwaaaa haaaa haaa haaaaaaaaaaaa!
Personally I think it's silly having these arguments about which console is best, and defending our corners with a vengeance. To be honest if we all had enough money, we'd probably all own a Dreamcast, a PS2, a GBA and have pre-orders in on the X-Box and the Gamecube.
There are games on all those systems that I would love to own, but as is the case for most of us (I would assume) I can only afford one. I owned a PS1, so it made sense to buy a system that not only looked great, but I could still use my old games on. Not only that, I trust Sony to provide high quality games, and a high quality product. So it was a case of 'go with what you know', and I'm sure that this will be the case with the Gamecube for a lot of people. Nintendo have always produced quality games, of maybe more appeal to the Japanese markets, lot of 'cute' characters and excellent puzzlers. And from the games I've seen previewed for the GC this tradition appears to be continuing. (Monkeyball springs immediately to mind)
There has never been a better time to be a gamer, that much is clear. The only difficulty we have is choosing which of the excellent consoles to pick.
It's a hard life, isn't it!!
PS2
This console will undoubtedly have more games than the GC- simply because it has been out longer, has a far larger user base, and developers have a bigger market. As a result, I can see plenty of quality games from the big publishers, over a wide range of games.
There is the argument that the PS2 will not have games as original as the Gc, but I think that's a bit pessimistic...
GC
The big pro of the GC is the exclusive games it has... notably Ninty's games, and the Resident evil series. Expect some great games from the first and second party games developers (Rare, Ninty, Hudson) including lots of sequals (Zeldas, Marios, Pd) and some very original titles to go along. Also expect lots to be made of the 4 player ports as standard... multiplayer gaming on the N64 was easily the best around, and I expect the GC (or maybe even xbox) to continue this trend.
However, there are some very big names missing from the console's line up... some publishers never returned to ninty after the 16 bit era. Saying that, in terms of quality games, the GC will easily rival the PS2 and Xbox, and due to its hardcore market will last as long as these 2 consoles.
Xbox
NOT the PC everyone was expecting, the Xbox has outrageously good launch games in the form of Halo, Project Gotham and DOA3. These games rival the best on the PS2, and this makes Xbox a very serious console (Although thanks to Sony's headstart, the xbox will not exceed sony's sales figures).
Saying that, the Xbox has some excellent 2nd party publishers, and so much financial backing that it will certainly have a long life in the West... whether it breaks Japan though is questionable (Japan is notorious for being a one console market!).
The downfall of xbox is that it will not have as many games as the PS2... but it will certainly have quality games that will be at least as good as the PS2 counterparts. Oh, and don't forget the built in HDD and Modem either...
So, which console?
Well, that depends on the games you like. If you love Nintendo's 1st and 2nd party excellence, but don't mind having a smaller range of games that the PS2, then get the GC.
If,however, you prefer Sony's range of more adult orientated games (and much larger range), then the Xbox or PS2 is for you. The Xbox's launch games certainly gives it the AAA titles to keep you busy for the second batch of games, while the PS2 already has a large range. Personally, if I had the money, I'd get an xbox (or both!) due to the launch title's appeal.
In fact, I have a PS2 because it was the cheaper option, but do intend to get a GC some time. It's a great shame I can't afford an Xbox either, because with exclusive titles like Jet Set Future et al, it makes it a console not to under estimate.
