Hi there,

I am waiting for the Gamecube to be released in the UK in march (hopefully!). I have pre-ordered my GC from Special Reserve, who I think are fantastic!

I have heard a few stories of people in the US being disappointed on the day of release beacuse they couldn't get their hand on a memory card!

I have considered buying a US GC controller and Memory card in advance for my UK gamecube when it is released. The only thing holding me back is the question whether or not they will be compatable.

Is there anyone here who is going to import US accessories for their UK gamecube?

Do you think I would be stupid to spend money on a US Gamecube Controller and Memory card now for my UK console, when it is released?

Cheers

Regards

Paul Sinfield

p.s. I'm not slaging off Sony, but I think they are starting to get a bit worried because they have already started the production of the PS3

I'm sure someone has said this, but Sony have NOT started production of the PS3!?!?!?!?!?!?

They have started designing the console (they announced this just before the PS2 launch for the sole reason of keeping investors happy!), and even Sega announced they were desiging a new console after the DC launched! (the Sega console has probably been canned though :(

They are working with theoretical specs to create a theoretical console that will, theoretically, be released in about 2005.

The reason why you need 2 different memory cards for a universal Gamecube is because when the Gamecube formats a memory card for the first time, It either formats it for a Japanese console or US console depending on which you have. You can't save US game data on a jap formatted memory card.

If you bought a memory card from japan brand new, and formatted it on a US machine, it would work for US games. The only concern I had, having been reassured by other people, was whether or not the us and jap cards would format on a UK console correctly.

I have been reassured about the controllers too. The worry I had there was that jap and US machines run off a different power supply to the UK. But US and jap N64 controllers do work on the UK consoles!

Hope that helps,

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE ON THE FORUM AND TO THE PEOPLE OF SPECIAL RESERVE!

I hope the GC is released in the UK soon, and everyone is in gaming heaven by spring 2002!

Regards

Are you sure the US memory card will work? As you have to get different memory cards for US and Jap games, i thought it highly unlikly that pal games would save onto them.

Sony announced they were developing the PS3 a month before the PS2 launched... the reason is simply this:

You have hundreds of really talented people making the PS2... and then they make it...

Do you fire them all???? Clearly not.

Also, it keeps investors happy!

Sega began production of the DC's successor 2 months after the DC release...

And I'm sure ninty will do the same. Either that, or fire all your hardware guys!

I doubt it, not yet. They'll start work on it in about a year though, possibly.
And anyway, Sony have more or less announced the PS3.

Details haven't been finalised though it's clear that Sony recognise that the PS2 is a pain-in-the-***e to devellop for and will be taking leaves out of Nintendo and Microsoft's box for the next console.

Nintendo are also probably developing there new console. PS3 is most likly in production as consoles take years of development. Specs have to be nearly finalised a year before to send out developement kits for developers to actually make the games. Console can end up taking 3 or 4 years to develop, so PS3 will have started aswell as the next Nintendo machine. GC is out in 2001/2002, 4 years down the line its 2005/2006 when the next new console will arrive.

i found them only a few quid cheeper and that was on www.lik-sang.com , i found the controller for about £22 and the memory card for £13-£14. So not that much difference , and once you add upp the p&p from japan it would probably equal what you paid (does a jap control or mem card word on a uk machine like the us ones ?)
