Some may remember my hassle with Ealing Council and their ticketing of my car repeatedly.
Short version is this:
They ticketed me for parking. It was a Saturday and regulations do not apply. I told them and they ignored it, sending threats of legal action.
They did it again 2 months later and I told them where to insert their tickets.
It was only after I received a legal notice to appear in court that it turns out that section of road doesn’t fall under their jurisdiction – it belongs to Harrow.
I then get ticketed again.
Turns out, after asking around, that they have known about this road not being theirs for almost 3 years. Yet they have still ticketed and claimed monies owed, operating in common knowledge that the road is not their responsibility.
They have claimed a lot of money (hundreds of thousands of pounds) over the past years from people unaware.
They then ticketed me again – this time in my mum’s car.
She writes and complains and they send her a cheque for £100 to apologise for sending bailiffs round to claim for a debt illegally and fraudulently issued.
I have spent months chasing this, never once have I been in the wrong.
Today the guy in charge emails me to say they’re sending me £25 and “sorry”.
This doesn’t mention anything about me wasting months on phone calls, receiving notification to appear in court, threats of bailiff action and so on.
Do I take this £25 and let it go, or do I get involved with MPs, the council select committee and newspapers that might take an interest in Borough Councils illegally fining motorists when the dept is fully aware it is not their right to do so?
Give me some advice people.
Give them some bad rep?
Just let everyone know what a dirty bunch the council really is.
I would send the money back and just get an apology out of them.
Will Time + Effort + Money involed = satisfaction if this gets sorted?
If it does, go for it, and good luck!
I also put notices up under the parking restriction signs informing drivers that any ticket issued by Ealing Borough Council is invalid and any monies collected illegal.
But as much as I exist to fight crime and right wrongs as my alter-ego Goatboy, the mild-mannered Janitor side of me just wants to forget about it and get back to things.
Hmmm..a dilemna
Whatever happens, whatever you guys reckon, I'm sending their cheque back to them.
This was never about money, this was about an apology - pure and simple.
Just about respect.
(I'm not in the Mafia or anything)
> Get what you can and give it to a charity......
After you have paid for the X-box!
The goat must be respected!
Reminds me of Cartman hitting every one with that stick and shouting "respect my authorita" when he was a policeman.
Hang..... smashing wiv sticks? Goaty, you're not Cartman are you? Nah.... can't be!
:D
