If your player has had the same contract for two years or have less than 6 months remaining on their contract, they are free to sign contracts with another club, who don't have to pay any money to you as a result of buying the player when unprotected.
So, when a contract is unprotected (check regularly), get your player a new contract fast.

Bizarre stuff happening in my game.
All my best players get offered contracts but the clubs wanting the players don't pay, and in the end they go for nothing! I am befuddled, my super goalie/forward ahs gone, and Rivaldo is about to go. I don't know what to do!

Like I have never been favurites to win the league, ever. Once I was joint favourite actually. But I won the league 6 out of 7 times. Which is not bad.
Even when you go a good team, there are always better ones.
Go a rubbish team and it'll get more challenging.
i love champ manager 4, although it is a bit easy.
