Well, that's an interesting question, certainly one that takes more than an unfinished bowl of scrumptios (or unscrumptious as the case may be) bowl of Kellog's Corn Flakes. But I do know who will be the best at making peanut butter sandwiches...Nintendo, because they'll be making them for all the guys at Sony when they put themselves out of business with the GameCube!!

*AHEM* Sorry. Anyway. This is another one of my banter topics really. Don't know why I'm writing it, I just am. If you have a problem with this, please feel free to send all your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.

I was going to write a largish post on the DVD Forum about whether Harry Potter is satanic or not. But I can't be bothered. So I'll write a little bit about it in here. I listened to a talk from the pastor at my church (it was recorded on a rather old cassette, but played on a rather new CD/Cassette/Radio/Toast-Making machine.) His views were quite extremist, and as a Christian myself you would expect me to agree with him. Part of it I did, but I think he went over the top on many of his points. What I did happen to concur with was that surely this sort of book opens a new...erm...fascination. As he put it, we need to have a thirst for God, not for witches and wizards (that probably goes more for Christians and not for most of you guys.) And it's blatently obvious this is not the case. *Looks out the window at group of kids walking along wearing pointy hats and casting transfiguration spells*

And here's some interesting stuff about the 'satanic' view. The 'person' or whatever it is that guards the Philosopher's Stone is 666 years old. Very subtle. Also, the Unicorn in the Bible is used as a symbol of the Devil. Transfiguration (used in Harry Potter books) is actually where a person becomes infested with demons and evil spirits etc, and supposedly, this Proffessor undergoes something like this, and my Pastor (who has ridded people of demons) sais it was a very accurate description. So what does this mean?? That JK Rowling is infested with evil spirits? Not likely, but she seems very knowledgeable on the subject. I could go on, but they're just a few I remembered. The last thing he said was that these books made satanism and witchcraft (which is very real) sound cool, which he believes would make God and the Bible not as interesting, and that these books were stealing almost a whole generation from God. Please remember these are NOT my views, but are of my pastor's. Please feel free to send your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.
I would say he was being a bit extreme, but he has a bit of a point, because there are many impressionable people out there. Your thoughts?

Anyway, enough serious stuff. Most of you will have skipped the first two paragraphs, and if you are annoyed that you have had to scroll down this far to actually want to start reading, then feel free to send your rants and curses, to Grix Thraves.

On the subject of gaming, Airblade, although an excellent game, is marred a little by the soundtrack, especially in "Downtown" area. The music's good, but if you play for over 10 minutes the constant phrase, "Flip, Flop, Flip, Flop, Fly!" (or something in those areas) can get tiresome.

Hoover. Vacuum Cleaner. They both mean the same thing (for those of you incompetent enough not to know what your mother uses to 'suck' the dirt, bogies and crumbs from your bedroom floor, a Hoover/Vacuum Cleaner does exactly what I have just described,) but why do both of them have two of the same letter, in a row! Hoover has a double 'o' and Vacuum has a double 'u'. And they're both vowels! Coincidence? Me no thinks so. Government conspiracy? Probably not. Goatboy? Most likely. Any other views on this completely meaningless yet original topic?

Wolfenstein 3D is one of the best FPS out there. No, not the latest release 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein,' but the games that revolutionised FPS'. It came out a few years back on PC, and although it is dated, killing dogs and Guards that say, "Hot-dog!" when they say you is still as fun as ever. Please buy or download this game now, do whatever you can to get it! Anyone know what happened to the add-on game, Spear Of Destiny? I wanted it, but never found it. If you can't find this game anywhere, feel free to send your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.

External modem?? Internal modem?? I spent the whole of Maths listening to Darkness_2K (who does come on here, and quite a few of you will know him,) sing, "External modem is craaappp!!" Yes, highly amusing for a few minutes, but when he starts to take other songs and change the words around it can get annoying. So which do you have, an internal modem, or an external modem? Which is best? Only time, and this piece of brown paper with a spot of jam in it, will tell.

Well, that's all I've got to say for the time being. I'd like to thank anyone who reads even a word of this, as you have taken time out of your life just to read something I wrote. Hugs and sugar to all of you.

Thanks for reading, Ant.

PS-If you did not enjoy reading this topic, and you found it boring, insulting, unbalanced or was less than satisfactory in anyway, then feel free to send all your rants and curses, to Grix Thraves.

Actually, this is rubbish enough for me to be bothered to argue. Kids don't go to Church anymore because it holds no appeal to them. Who believes in God these days, when there's so much wrong with the world. I say Christianity is dying because no one believes. All of 50 years ago whole villages would go to Church. Now my village is lucky if they get three. You can't blame the fact that not many people are stupid enough to believe in some unproven do nothing enity on a book series? When the Famous Five came out, people loved that. Same with Roald Dahl, The Hobbit and so on. It's just a craze, but because they are GOOD BOOKS. How on earth does it encourage satanism. Where is this guard = 666 thing? I've never read it. Just because programs and books concern witchcraft, it doesn't mean kids are going to suddenly start worshipping satan.

Well that's a load of bollards. Your pastor clueless about the books.

Would you not agree in saying that Harry Potter books, and any

No, I'd disagree entirely. It's just entertainment. Kids use their imagination to create worlds, and that's great. Church would dictate these imaginations and say they can't imagine certain things, it's bad. That's nonsense.

Grix - I blame you. Everything's your fault, including the fact that I have just stubbed my toe. God damn it Grix, pull yourself together.

:-D

Well, I feel much better.

In fact, Stryke, don't answer that. I can't be bothered to argue, especially when I'm arguing more for my pastor than myself. If Christianity is dying then I'm gonna try and revive it, but I can't see how arguing over a franchise such as Harry Potter is going to help. If you do wish to argue this however, feel free to send all your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.

So lets concentrate on other parts of the topic. Hoover?? Vacuum Cleaner??

But maybe we're not just talking about church here. Christianity isn't just church. To be honest, I hardly ever go. Any why do you think it is dying? Because kids are more interested in Harry Potter. And not just the books, it's a whole damn franchise now.

But as I've said, I don't agree with him on most things. Harry Potter is getting kids back to books, which is good. And it's not just Harry Potter, look at all the the other TV programs! The Worst Witch on CITV, there was another show about witches on CBBC, there are many out there. But Rowling seems to be very detailed, like that guard who is 666 years old. Or that transfiguration is being taken over or 'infested' by demons and evil spirits.

Would you not agree in saying that Harry Potter books, and any other program about witches etc, might open a new fascination for young, impressionable kids? And that it makes satanism sound interesting and cool.

Right, you might find this a bit insulting Ant, but sod it. Your pastor has to realise that Christianity is dying in this country. Kids who read Harry Potter are not playing computer games, which is a good thing. It has given the children something to be excited about, and when was the last time you saw a group of children being excited about going to Church. Bloody holier-than-thou attitude. How the hell is Harry Potter satanic?
