*AHEM* Sorry. Anyway. This is another one of my banter topics really. Don't know why I'm writing it, I just am. If you have a problem with this, please feel free to send all your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.
I was going to write a largish post on the DVD Forum about whether Harry Potter is satanic or not. But I can't be bothered. So I'll write a little bit about it in here. I listened to a talk from the pastor at my church (it was recorded on a rather old cassette, but played on a rather new CD/Cassette/Radio/Toast-Making machine.) His views were quite extremist, and as a Christian myself you would expect me to agree with him. Part of it I did, but I think he went over the top on many of his points. What I did happen to concur with was that surely this sort of book opens a new...erm...fascination. As he put it, we need to have a thirst for God, not for witches and wizards (that probably goes more for Christians and not for most of you guys.) And it's blatently obvious this is not the case. *Looks out the window at group of kids walking along wearing pointy hats and casting transfiguration spells*
And here's some interesting stuff about the 'satanic' view. The 'person' or whatever it is that guards the Philosopher's Stone is 666 years old. Very subtle. Also, the Unicorn in the Bible is used as a symbol of the Devil. Transfiguration (used in Harry Potter books) is actually where a person becomes infested with demons and evil spirits etc, and supposedly, this Proffessor undergoes something like this, and my Pastor (who has ridded people of demons) sais it was a very accurate description. So what does this mean?? That JK Rowling is infested with evil spirits? Not likely, but she seems very knowledgeable on the subject. I could go on, but they're just a few I remembered. The last thing he said was that these books made satanism and witchcraft (which is very real) sound cool, which he believes would make God and the Bible not as interesting, and that these books were stealing almost a whole generation from God. Please remember these are NOT my views, but are of my pastor's. Please feel free to send your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.
I would say he was being a bit extreme, but he has a bit of a point, because there are many impressionable people out there. Your thoughts?
Anyway, enough serious stuff. Most of you will have skipped the first two paragraphs, and if you are annoyed that you have had to scroll down this far to actually want to start reading, then feel free to send your rants and curses, to Grix Thraves.
On the subject of gaming, Airblade, although an excellent game, is marred a little by the soundtrack, especially in "Downtown" area. The music's good, but if you play for over 10 minutes the constant phrase, "Flip, Flop, Flip, Flop, Fly!" (or something in those areas) can get tiresome.
Hoover. Vacuum Cleaner. They both mean the same thing (for those of you incompetent enough not to know what your mother uses to 'suck' the dirt, bogies and crumbs from your bedroom floor, a Hoover/Vacuum Cleaner does exactly what I have just described,) but why do both of them have two of the same letter, in a row! Hoover has a double 'o' and Vacuum has a double 'u'. And they're both vowels! Coincidence? Me no thinks so. Government conspiracy? Probably not. Goatboy? Most likely. Any other views on this completely meaningless yet original topic?
Wolfenstein 3D is one of the best FPS out there. No, not the latest release 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein,' but the games that revolutionised FPS'. It came out a few years back on PC, and although it is dated, killing dogs and Guards that say, "Hot-dog!" when they say you is still as fun as ever. Please buy or download this game now, do whatever you can to get it! Anyone know what happened to the add-on game, Spear Of Destiny? I wanted it, but never found it. If you can't find this game anywhere, feel free to send your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.
External modem?? Internal modem?? I spent the whole of Maths listening to Darkness_2K (who does come on here, and quite a few of you will know him,) sing, "External modem is craaappp!!" Yes, highly amusing for a few minutes, but when he starts to take other songs and change the words around it can get annoying. So which do you have, an internal modem, or an external modem? Which is best? Only time, and this piece of brown paper with a spot of jam in it, will tell.
Well, that's all I've got to say for the time being. I'd like to thank anyone who reads even a word of this, as you have taken time out of your life just to read something I wrote. Hugs and sugar to all of you.
Thanks for reading, Ant.
PS-If you did not enjoy reading this topic, and you found it boring, insulting, unbalanced or was less than satisfactory in anyway, then feel free to send all your rants and curses, to Grix Thraves.
And from which, spawned Ant.
*Looks around all shifty-like*
Please excuse my absence for another few months, as people gradually forget about this burst of insanity.
"as a Christian myself you would expect me to agree with him"
But this confuses me.
Do you feel you are viewed as someone who simply follows orders? A drone, unable to make their own decisions upon their own life, and is then forced to have to live life according to someone else?
I'm glad as hell you don't agree with everything he says, that would scare me entirely... but ask yourself, ARE you supposed to agree with him? After all, he IS your Pastor, or whatever... and he's obviously some sort of figure in Christianity. If he's wrong, then what then?
Please note, I am NOT knocking your views in the slightest. I'm just interested.

I would actually agree that religion causes a lot problems, but without religion there would not be much meaning to life, for some anyway. Although, the Catholic/Protestant thing is a complete farce. Most of them aren't Christians anyway, they just call themselves Catholics and Protestants. If only people would treat it properly...although, some religions are completely mad anyway (sorry to sound ironic.) I can't remember which one it is, but I saw loads of people sitting around, chanting something and nodding their heads back and forth, non-stop for something like a whole day.
Also, I didn't understand your last sentence. Who's the small minority?
God doesn't make the bad things happen in the World. He's letting us get on with it. And we can learn from suffering. If it wasn't for September 11th, then I expect we would not have started the war against terrorism, and destroyed the Taliban (which are surely good things, if you discount some of the pointless bombing the US took part in.)
And your point about church holding no appeal is exactly my point! To non-believers, christianity equals church. Boring, dull church. But it doesn't! I go to a small youth group at someone's house (in fact, I partly lead one of the groups now,) and it's really good. You have a welcome part where we have a bit of fun, then we talk about God and find different ways of worshipping him. Then we talk in smaller groups about a subject, and then someone talks for about 5 mins on how we can spread our faith. It's really good, you make lots of friends and you all get a say, unlike church which I find dull quite a lot of the time, (but some churches are REALLY boring, you just need to find the right one.)
Sorry to go on, but I just get a bit annoyed when people immediately associate christianity with church.

Well that's a load of
> bollards. Your pastor clueless about the books.
He meant in real life, by the way.
No, I'd disagree entirely. It's just
> entertainment. Kids use their imagination to create worlds, and that's great.
> Church would dictate these imaginations and say they can't imagine certain
> things, it's bad. That's nonsense.
Nothing wrong with imagination. As I said, I think he was too extreme, and to think that people are stupid enough to go practise satanism because of Harry Potter books is going over the top really. Church doesn't dictate what you imagine, and it doesn't dictate, it asks. I mean, loads of people at my church read Harry Potter. But as I said, I can't really be bothered to argue an opinion that isn't even mine, I only agree with a small part of it.
And lastly, Christianity is proven. Not just in people's minds and the way God has effected lives, but many parts of the Bible have been proved too. And to be honest, I don't see why people shouldn't believe. If there isn't a heaven or a hell, then fine, we all just go under the ground. As a Christian you should hopefully have led a good life and contributed to society (of course, non-believers seem to have the view that as a Christian you can never do anything wrong, or that you think you're better than everyone else, which is not true, but is the fault of how it is portrayed by the media.) Nothing wrong with doing that. But if there is a heaven and a hell, and you're all wrong, then it's most likely you'll go to hell.
Trust me, if people the effort into know God, then they would believe. Unfortunately, all these other theories make it easy not to bother. And it doesn't make your life 'boring,' and it doesn't stop you from doing any of the things you like to do in life.
Well, I've droned on enough now. I would like to finish the discussion now. But as I said, if you want to carry on, then please send your rants and curses to Grix Thraves.
