When the Nintendo 64 was launched in January 1996 I was still playing my humble old master system II, which up until the N64 came out I thought was the bees knees. But then I realised that if I wanted the latest in console technology I needed to do away with the humble old master system and get a N64, which I got one year for Xmas, I was really pleased with it.
I loved my Mastersystem II I played it all the time, the variety of games that the Mastersystem had was unbelievable. The graphics on it were good for a small console. The gameplay was a bit tedious but never the less it was good fun my favourite game was California Games in which there was a variety of sports to choose from and play such as surfing, skating and skateboarding in all of which you had to get a high score in order to win.
The handsets and the controls are a bit clumsy and sometimes a bit slow but they were easy enough to get the hang of.
I had great fun with this console but I got detached from it when I got my N64.I kind of regretted it because Sega had made a fine console but was soon to be left to rot in a gutter. Which is a very sad ending indeed especially for such a good little console but all good things must come to an end, which Sega were soon to find out when they launches their masterpiece they called the Sega Dreamcast
All was quiet in the Sega head quarters until one day the SEGA Dreamcast was born,
This is the very first console to have Internet facilities on it enabling for online gaming, which is a huge step for the gaming industry. The graphics are brilliant the gameplay in most games are good but the handsets were just too big and bulky.
About a year after Sega made their console it was announced that the production of Dreamcast Consoles and the games were to stop due to lack of sales. Another sad ending for poor Sega, they have had a rough ride haven’t they.
Sega recently announced that due to popular demand they were going to restart the production of a few Consoles, but sadly not games. I don’t think Sega could afford to make another console especially after these hard times they’ve been through.
There could be a small amount of hope left for the Dreamcast due to the announcement, but will it be enough?
We’ll just have to sit tight ‘cos who knows what the future of gaming holds in store for us.
Anyway Alex Kidd was great. A fanastic platform adventure game. There was just so much more to it than other platform games, you really felt like you were on a quest with Alex, and it was so much fun. I remember reaching the second level for the first time and wandering into the shop, I had picked up enough cash to afford a the motorbike. It was great , I was suddenly racign along, jumping right through enemies, and other barriers. Damn red bits made me stop though, and my bike was gone. ANyway, I progressed to the end of the level only to be faced with "Stone-head" and he was challenging me to a 'Janken match'. This was a game of scissors-stone-paper. Excellent!
The levels got progressively harder, but you got to fly in a helicopter, and use a speedboat too, which was just so cool. And that castle at the end, boy, was that tough! So many great puzzles stood between you and the end. Excellent game.
Final Fantasy 2 was another game I enjoyed a great deal. A cute shoot 'em-up, with fantastic weapons, and tough bosses. Plus the ending was absolutely fantastic. I had to go back and finish it again recently, with the help of an emulator!
Phantasy Star was my first RPG. It belonged to a friend, but we would play it together, moving on to defeat Lassic, only to find that it wasn't yet over! We didn't understand the game at first, and didn't make any progress, we just kept increasing our levels. As a result of this, when we did get going, we were already quite strong, which was great, as nothing was that difficult to beat. I remember beating Medusa without getting the mirror shield, becuase I manage to kill her within 4 hits, so she was only able to turn 3 members of my party to stone. I took the little cat creature back into town alone, but victorious, and revived the rest of my party. Excellent RPG adventure, really helped to shape my taste in games.
Hang-On and Out Run were great arcade racers, reproduced convincingly for the SMS, Space Harrier was so fast and frantic, a real thrill to play.
Ah, so many great games on the Sega Master System, it was indeed a great console in it's day.
I forgot to mention them.
YOu say that after the demise of the master system all was quiet in the Sega camp....thats strange. What about those little consoles we called the Megadrive, Megadrive 2 and the Sega Saturn? Didn't really hear them mentioned at all. Okay, the Saturn wasn't exactly anything to shout about, but in my opinion the Megaedrive 2 was a worthy competitor to the Super Nintendo.
> erm...does adding a hard drive to a console make it a PC? hmm i'm still stumped!
> I didn't mean which is best, I just meant which had the biggest impact on you?
> And where are you buy the way? at college.
i'm trying to come up with an idea for anothe GAD attempt but my mind's a blank at the moment.
Got any ideas?
But I would probabaly put it in 85th spot.
