Nintardo, you say.
Well I don't agree.
The way I see it Nintendo can appeal to those with the lowest IQ, because of it's pretty colours, inoffensive storylines and simplicity to pick up.
Those that think they are smarter think this is dull, cartoons are for kids and anyone with any sense should play games set in the real world.
Now those that are really smart, they know the truth. Nintendo is THE company for top games. It just takes a little intelligence to see this.
Rare are a good example of appealing to the lowest of the low with their characters. Banjo Kazooie, and Tooie have the most sickenly cute characters in it. They make really stupid noises for speech, designed to make you chuckle. But beyond this there is so much more. When you get to the middle levels of the game you find yourself missing so much unless you pick up on every single hint. You can miss a huge area of the game until later on, when you realise what you've missed. If you never knew you missed itthough, you wouldn't care, you'd still get fun from the game, and think you'd seen it all.
I've never become frustrated by one of Nintendo's games.
They always have the learning curves set just right. You'll pick up the basics of the game without ever feeling patronised, because tyou'll still be in the 'jaw-dropping' stage you go through when you first play a new game. By the time you're ready to try to complete a mission of some description you have already learnt enough of the basics to cope well with the surroundings. As the game moves on more and more is introduced to you. If this was all thrown in at the start you'd never remember it, and think there was way too much to learn.
Looking to Lylat Wars for an example, the simple route through the game could be seen as no more than basic training. You didn't have to hit many targets, just stuff that got in your way. When you had the skill to defeat this basic patch you were ready to take on ther tougher routes.
I believe the first step to taking on the tough route is to take out a number of enemies, then follow one of your allies. You wouldn't find this route until you had gained the necessary expertise, as you wouldn't be able to shoot down those enemies necessary to open up the extra path.
Again it's a case of so much more hidden on the levels that is there to see right away.
Nintendo games have a depth that many just don't see, they're all too quick to dismiss them. Well it's not my loss. I'm enjoying playing my games. I haven't been disappointed by my console choices.
The REAL immature people are the ones who call Nintendo immature - they should be shot
They know who's best - they are just too stubborn to realise or give in. Shame on them.
:D
SHOCKY
"I wasnt really a big fan of CBFD..."
Fair enough. You've got bad taste. ;0)
The GC sequel will hopefully have more time spent on it, and have greater lastability.
PS agree with all the stuff about Nintendo, I have said before, that just because a game is 'realistic' or violent doesn't mean it's mature.
> Yup, CBFD is as immature as anything, but it's still an excellent game that
> everyone should play. Even Goatboy.
I wasnt really a big fan of CBFD...
They ALWAYS have the learning curves so right. I just don't know how they do that. Like you, I have never had any trouble with any games. They always start off right. They always get harder, but you know if you concentrate you can do it.
Great post Meka. Nintendo rule. I at least I know one person is 100% there with me. (Thats you by the way) :oP
It is like music. Fans of Garage have a go at fans of Hard House. Fans of Rap have a go at Fans of Metal and so forth.
I have a taste for all genres on all medias and I think that is a good thing.
With regards to games I am adult enough to realise that the ps2 has some great games, the Gamecube has some great games, and sure enough the XBox will have some great games. My preference however was to purchase a Gamecube and I am happy with my choice. But I do not feel the need to attack any of the other consoles, and I cannot understand those that do. It is almost as if they fear that if they are not defending their machine its sale figures will drop and it will fall into a black hole. Just not true.
So I am happy with my choice of console And if at the end of the day it sadly fails commercially, I know that it will have at least 2 or 3 years of good solid games coming out for it, and we all know that 30 AAA Titles will keep you more occupied than 100 Mediocre ones.
And when it comes to my thoughts on this particular topic it is the same. I have a varied taste in game types. For every bloody and gory game, it is also nice to relax with a sports game or, if you want to put it that way, "Cute and Fluffy" platformer.
I am happily catered for with the Nintendo Gamecube which will cover all bases. And i am sure that owners of the PS2, XBox, Dreamcast, N64, PSOne, PC and Game Boy Platforms will all be covered too.
Immature games are great but if you love them yet snub your noses down at cartoony games and call them "childish" then you're an idiot.
Pretty much, Nintendo is for people who like games for the good games they are.
Whether it be violent and serious like Perfect Dark (Rare is owned and work with closely with Nintendo so I think that they can count as "Nintendo" in this discussion), fast and furious like F-Zero X, fun and light hearted like Mario Kart, a gripping adventure such as Zelda, or a shamelessly immature games like Conker's Bad Fur Day, we like them for the great games they are.
It's the gamer's healthy balanced diet. You get the best of everything.
*time passes*
Very true. I've often preached the fact that if you compare Mario to Resident Evil or Dead and Alive, then the real immature game is the Resident Evil or the Dead and Alive.
Citing the point that if something is overusing blood to the point of stupidity, blasting heads off and so on, then it is nothing less than childish. Dead and Alive is childish too... face it. Big bosomed women beating and wobbling eachother. Fun, yeah, hell of a lot of fun, but still immature. *cough*
Compared to huge 3D worlds that people find confusing to think about. Not childish at all, and teaching a greater mindset to people who play and understand it's methods.
Yeah, it's overwhelming at first, but keep at it, and learn your surroundings. And stop bloody complaining that it's all in primary colours.
Or if it's not your style, go and play something else, we won't stop you.
