Hey up,

Anyone know where i can find hardware reviews for the ps2?
I'm gonna get GTA3 & Mega Memory 16 (havin a ps2 for xmas) and i just want to see what they say about this Mega Memory 16 card...i've heard that saves have been lost with GTA3...but at £17.99 and twice as big as the Sony Memory card, this looks the better deal..just wondering if the thing with lost saves is true..

Thanks

To me, here, in this thread. All I said originally was "If you've got your console, GTA3 and card and it works, then fine - otherwise don't be so quick to dismiss other people's findings."

A perfectly reasonable suggestion, I thought, as you'd provided no evidence to the contrary. And you flip out with "I really don't know who you think you are".

> And a worth while product?? 4 out of 10?? how'd you work that one out??

I worked that out by actually reading the final comments and not relying on the overall score.

"On paper it’s a bargain buy but I believed that this was going to be a simple plug and play card with double the size of an ordinary card. In essence that is what you’re getting but it’s not the most user friendly item on earth and if you’re the type of person who wants to play NOW then this is possibly not the card for you.

As it is, I have as yet not needed to use the 16mb card despite owning around 12 games AND having the new DVD drivers installed (a quarter of the 8mb card is taken up by this alone).

It’s worth keeping for the future though as inevitably those game saves may well increase in size."

That sounds reasonably worthwhile to me, despite the final score.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with anything other than an official card, but others might. The final score of 4/10 is Mr. Coates own opinion, and is valid as it was not quite what he expected. However, at no point in his review does he actually say that it's a bad or unworthy product.

Eh?? I'd wish you'd get things correct first.
I wasnt slagging or been offensive to anyone that gave me advise on the post....where did you see this?
The only person i was on about in the first place was whoever did the review of the card....not people giving me advise....so you're wrong again..
And a worth while product?? 4 out of 10?? how'd you work that one out??

PS2 is desgined to work with 8mb cards. Try to increase the compacity and things can go wrong e.g loss of data. From the experience of one or a few people on this board they have had problems saving games for GTA3. When they say the data can be compressed to make the card 80mb's big that means you wont be able to load a game that is compressed. I know the 16mb is uncompressed but I wouldnt trust it. I remember back 5 years ago when I first got my PS1, Sony memory cards were £19.99. So I thought for £29.99 I can get an 8mb card. But I lost saves. I also bought some cheap 1mb cards and they actually did work ok and are reliable but they did lose data right after I had completed Resident Evil 2 with both characters and both scenerios, so I wasnt happy. Take the advice we give you as most of use have had experience before. The site where your want to get this 16mb card from will give it great reviews. Every place selling something would give every product a good rating. They arent going to say "This card is 16mb but you will never ever fill it because it loses all the data every week." If a company sells a bag of rubbish they will tell you how great it is.
Always stick to the rule of buying offical products were every you can. Sometimes you need to get un-offical stuff e.g. DVD-Region X. But any controller, Memory card, Multi-tap e.t.c stick with Sony. If you buy a BMW your not going to fit any other part to it unless its a BMW part so why not do the same for your PS2.

Have YOU read my post? I WAS NOT referring to the REVIEW posted my Mr Coates - the ONLY review for the Mega Memory 16. See http://special.reserve.co.uk/ reviews/review.php?custid=1005729978

I was referring to a POST on THIS FORUM by ANOTHER user (SykotikJester) who said that IN HIS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, the Mega Memory 16 card did not seem function with GTA3.

See http://ukchatforums.reserve.co.uk/ display_messages.php?threadid=24472&forumid=135

> And for me making it clear that i was on about the

As I already said, I had not seen the REVIEW and was referring to a POST in the forums, and assumed you were referring to the same, as I'd already referred you to it once before. See http://ukchatforums.reserve.co.uk/ display_messages.php?threadid=24851&forumid=135

Review may just have been a turn of phrase. Oddly enough, some people do post reviews and product comments in the discussion threads. A review doesn't necessarily appear in the reviews section.

Depsite the review and whatever else you have found out on the net, other people have also advised you in both threads not to rely on unofficial memory cards. If you can't take advice gracefully and without becoming offensive, then don't ask for it.

And if you do find factual information which contradicts the common belief, posting references for the rest of us to look at is greatly appreciated. You originally said that someone else's personal account (and that's what it is - a personal review) was wrong, yet you had already said that you don't yet own a PS2 (and so - presumably - couldn't have tried it for yourself), and you also originally offered no significant information as to where you'd found evidence to contradict the review.

> and i thought that the card was complete sh@te due to
> that review

That's your interpretation. The review doesn't say it's "sh@te" at all - it just says that it's not an ideal solution due to the boot-disc needed to use it. Otherwise it says that it's a worthwhile product.

> Two words spring to mind 'high horse'

Strange. Most people around here can take advice in good faith, and I suspect many here will back me up when I say that advice given by myself and other PS2 users on this forum is usually appreciated.

If you've taken the tone of my original message the wrong way, then I apologise - but that's your problem, not mine.

Personal experience?? what the hell you going on about???
Have u read the review???? He says that you need the original sony 8MB memory card because the Mega Memory card doesnt save games??? how the hell is that a personal experience???? its totally wrong.....
And for me making it clear that i was on about the review of the card...how clear do you want me to be?? I said 'I think that guys REVIEW of the Mega Memory 16MB is wrong' NOTE THE WORD REVIEW!!!!!!!!!
And if you had bothered to read the rest of the messages in the post you would've seen this...
I was ONLY statin that the review....in short...was wrong...people read these when buying...like me..and i thought that the card was complete sh@te due to that review....but then i found out that you dont have to get a Original Sony card aswell as this....

If the same review can be found on that site, I would call that copying :) And Wookiee is the most respected person on here and I would have thought he knows a bit more than you do mate

I was talking about a post in these forums, not the review section, and you said 'review'. I wasn't aware of the review, and you didn't make it clear that you were referring to that area. It may also be by a different person.

> i found the instructions of the Memory card online...so he was wrong.....

Had you stated that originally, I'd have made no comment at all, but you didn't.

> i really dont know who you think you are WòókieeMøn§†€®....

I don't think I'm anyone, mate. You simply rubbished someone else's personal experience (even if it was misinformed) without posting any proof to the contrary, and also after admitting that you do not yet own a PS2. Who are we more likely to believe?
