Gar, this is doing my head in. How can the universe be infinite? It's got to end somewhere...

Ah, get over it.

I did, and recovered £25,000 in compensation. And a box of pelicans.
Thanks to Claims Direct.

Just like the universe is infinate, so is my knowledge.

Much easier to understand.

Really?

It's mistakes like that which cause Space Shuttle miscalculations, resulting in (potential) disaster.

yeah yeah, I know all that, was just trying to inject some comedy into a rather intense discussion ....

I remember something about we would have discovered this vital fact when einstein was around, but he added a gravitational constant to all his equations to compensate for such expansion. he called it the greatest mistake of his career.

And according to Neta Bachall:

The flat universe theory states that the universe will eventually stop expanding. But such an expansion can only be stopped if the universe has sufficient mass density -- the critical density.

"The data suggests only 20 percent of the critical mass density that is needed to stop the expansion, therefore we don't have enough metal in the universe to stop the universe."

Taken from data found by Yale astronomers.

there is, according to stephen hawking theres a chainlink fence surrounding the universe, which will catch everything and stop it expanding
