No ques, few sales in fact the Gamecube in Japan looked a bit disappointing and us Nintendo fans offered 3 reasons:
1. There were only 3 games at launch.
2. The disaster in America took attention away from the Gamecube.
3. There is an economic slump in the land of the rising sun at the moment.
So those Japanese results were a little unreliable. The Gamecube’s success will all depend on November 18th the Gamecube launch in America. Worries already started Nintendo's advertisement campaign started a little late in the day but it was a good one with cube clubs and massive Dr Pepper promotions and of course those cool adverts, "You've got one night to save Mario", classic.
X-box though was released 3 days before the Gamecube again another worry will the X-box steal any sales from Nintendo's machine?
Get ready for the facts Blitz!
Nintendo being the cheats that they are in fact started selling a few Gamecube’s before the 18th. Well it sold, getting up early to join ques of many waiting for their Gamecube, getting up late to find shelves bare with only a few accessories and games left. And not even Nintendo could anticipate its shocking success.
Gamecube outsold Harry Potter, which was also released at the same time, Nintendo pulled in an amazing $98 million that should tie them over. Nintendo also shipped 700,000 consoles to the land of opportunities and guess what 700,000 consoles were sold ALL OF THEM!
Nintendo delighted after such sales will increase the amount of Gamecube’s shipped this year by 200,000 so it’s forecasted sales of 1.1 million has increased to 1.3 million!
These incredible sales could have worrying implications for us Europeans and although the console is still sue around April that could still change.
We will have to wait and those scaremongers will have to keep quite for now at least.
Dringo.
Microsoft may be the same.
I reckon that Nintendo are making much more profit over the Gamecube's $200 price than Microsoft with its $300 Xbox.
> Thats what i thought but did Microsoft make more money considering the massive
> price difference??
I dont think it did because less of them were sold even though they were more expensive
But yet, Europe is the biggest gaming market in the world
( 1 Million GBA On release in Europe compared to 500.000 in the US). Europe Is were Nintendo Makes the most money, and yet It seems un-important!!.
Why?
Maybe because It Isn't as hip or as cool as America, which of course Is true.
In the end, It's long term Impressions that count.
I would seriously love to argue that point with Shelly 'Euro' friend, head of European Nintendo PR!
Both sold out, anywho. How many would have sold if supply was infinite, we just don't know.
And America is more important that Europe.
