I am looking to connect my Xbox up to my PC and after reading the instructions from xbox.com I am not entirely sure of what I need to do. I do not want to purchase a router as I don't have the funds avaialable and I don't mind having my PC turned on whilst playing LIVE. The other option (only other option) was the ICS Windows connection. I haven't purchased LIVE yet but will be very soon but after following the instructions I don't know where to start. I went to Control Panel and add new hardware and then tried to search for what they said I would need yet it isn't there. I have the BT Voyager USB (ADSL Modem) and want the cheapest and easiest way to connect my PC to my Xbox. Is there anyone that can help? Thankyou.

Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box at the Windows Setup tab.
Click Internet Tools, and then click Details.
Select Internet Connection Sharing, and then click OK.
Follow the instructions in the Internet Connection Sharing wizard.

Notes
You can also open the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box at the Windows Setup tab by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel, double-clicking Add/Remove Programs, and then clicking the Windows Setup tab.
If you used a CD to install Windows, you will be prompted to insert it into your computer.
To remove Internet Connection Sharing, follow steps one, two and three, above.

I had xbox live of my old PC through ICS..I had lots of troubles trying to connect to the service. I had Win98 SE. After weeks of trying to get MS to help ive gave up calling them and bought Windows ME from gameplay. Installed it and after 2mins my xbox live connection was working perfectly...If you cant get xbox live working upgrade your operating system asap...

Right... It says:

NETBEUI
IPX/SPX Compatible
TCP/IP

Which one is it that I need to enable? I have enabled all 3 but will that cause a problem? Thanks.

Cheers Adrian that has been a big help. I have 98 Second Edition according to what My Computer tells me so I can't understand why I can't find the ICS setup etc. I will have another glance around now with what you have said.

Which Win 98 ? SE or just Win 98? ICS only came in for Win 98 SE and above so if you havent got at least SE then you need to upgrade.

If you have SE then you should be able to go to your internet settings for the internet connection and set up ICS there, and not on the network card like Tom has said, as you are using a USB modem. If your connected to the internet then just double click on the internet icon where you see how long you have been connected etc. There you can click properties and then go to the advanced tab. This will bring up any ICS available.

Hope this helps.

If you've got Win XP you could try the Network Setup Wizard. Access it through Help.

If you've got win 98, Internet connection sharing is much more tricky (I think) and I really can't help you.

Cheers Tom! I have gone into my Network connections and looked at the properties of each Network card yet there isn't an option to make the cards available for other programs etc. I have gone to the advanced settings for each one yet I can not find an option which asks if I want to share. Is there any other way around this? Thanks.

Ok. First of all, I don't know if this is right as I use a router but:

Control Panel
Network connections
Choose the network card in your PC and right click
Properties
Advanced tab

Tick the box under "Internet connection sharing" that says "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection"

As I said, I use a router - so that method is just a guess.

Also, for buying your Xbox Live kit, you might want to take this WHSmiths offer into consideration. I don't know how long it lasts, but they've been slowly taking off the items one by one - so it's risky.

£31.49. You get free postage if you spend £40 I think.
