That means, by the time you get your GameCube, I'll have played all the "big" PS2 titles we're all getting excited about, all the unknown titles we're REALLY getting excited about and probably a load of other ace little gems yet to be announced. Bear in mind MGS2 is confirmed as being released in February, here.
And you'll have... nothing. And when you do get it, you'll have no where near as much. No Zelda, no Mario, a merely "good" Luigi game, less than good WaveRace, half a dozen other titles and of course, Super Monkey Ball which might also be on the PS2 by then.
Undoubtably one of you'll come up with the "I like Nintendo" argument which is fine. However, you play games that don't exist and still might be over a year away (we all know what Zelda releases are like). So, your choice but I can only really see the hardcore Nintys backing up the GameCube in the UK at least. Add to that the oh-so-imminent Christmas and Sony's immense marketing might, I think UK Nintys have a problem.

Nintendo havnt confirmed anything. Thats still really a sketchy date. And we will have more than the 3 games you mentioned for launch.

You'd better be quick, no more DC games are being made for the older titles and games like Skies of Arcadia will soon be scarce.
The arguement against this is that PS2 owners get to play games now, and there are many quality titles already available or planned for Sony's console. This, coupled with the DVD player and forthcoming modem options, is a pretty good reason not to get left behind.
Of course, most people can usually only afford one, or at most two, of the consoles. This means that Nintendo 'fans' will wait for their machine and those who like the look of the X-box will likewise wait for that. If they are happy playing on their old N64/Dreamcast/PS1 consoles, then there are still a wealth of back-catalogue games available out there for these.
It's a big decision to make when you are talking about hundreds of pounds, and some people who have the money will buy (and have already bought) import machines to play their games on. It's also a personal decision and their are good points for any console. It's not like buying a car, where there are good performers and old bangers, it's more a question of taste in games and the ability to sit and wait.

Isn't that after the X-Box launch??
Uh-oh...
And, Dr Duck, for your imformation: The PS2 and GameCube are equal. The PS2 is superior to the GameCube in certain areas (polygons, draw distances, detail) and the GameCube is superior in certain areas (textures, price). In the end it all balances out to two very well matched machines.
So really, which one you buys thoroughly depends on the games, but the GameCube doesn't HAVE any games, and won't do for another 5 months, but I've been playing games on my PS2 for a year now. Now do you see why I don't why you bother? If consoles really are about playing games, clearly the GameCube is NOT the console to get.
I could have a ps2 instead of a dvd player, wouldn't have cost that much more, if i'd known about the price drop i'd probably have got one, but having waited this long i'll be damned if i'm going to get an inferior (sorry, but lets face it, technically it has to be, a lot changes in a year and a half) product when i'm most of the way there already.
Anyway, i like nintendo... ; )
