How many people here use their DC/N64 with 4 players more than 2?
Why is this such a downside to the Sony machines? You have to buy a tap to have 4 players? Personally, I haven't played a 4 player game since Micro Machines on the Megadrive.
Let's dispel this for once and for all.
Firstly, how about the fact that you could have 2 multitaps and have 8 player games? How cool would it be to have a footy game where almost every player is human controlled? You couldnt have that on a DC/N64, could you!
"Oh, but they are so expensive!" you cry.
Actually, it's cheaper to play 4 player on a PS1/2 than either of the other machines.
4 PS2 pads are £80, and the tap is £20. Total: £100.
4 DC pads are £80, 4 rumble packs are £36. Total: £116.
4 N64 pads are £92, 4 rumble packs are £36. Total: £128.
(all prices are from SR)
This has never been an issue for PS1/2 owners. People who want 4 player can get it. The only people that bring this up are Nintys and Segats (whatever they are called). It's just a shame they are in fact, losing on this one.
Any more arguments anyone else would like to prove wrong while we are here?
At the end of the day though, if you've only got two of you on screen at once, it's not *really* four player....
also, 8 player split screen, your gunna need a BIG tv or spend your time squinting with that. but i suppose footy games could be good with 8 players, but who has a sitting room big enough for 2/3 sofas?!
whats it like?
> Also, how the hell would you have 8 players on one telly?
Depends on the game... 6-player co-operative FIFA on my PS1 (all players controlled on the one full-size screen) was a real blast.
> But you have to admit though, it does seem a little money grabbing by Sony
Sorry, although this may make me sound like I'm blindly defending Sony, I really don't see it that way.
It's no different to me than buying a 2nd controller, memory card, SCART lead, new game, or anything else. It's something I either want or need, so I'll buy it if it's necessary. It really is no big deal as far as I'm concerned.
As for PS2 not being a multiplayer machine... well forgive me for thinking that 2-player is actually multiplayer!
On a purely personal level, I don't really like 2-player split-screen games that much, as even on my 28-inch WEGA, I find the smaller screen restrictive and distracting. I once tried 4-player V-Rally, and it was absolutely useless - not because of the game's performance, but I just found it unplayable on a screen split four ways.
When I finally get my Gamecube some time next year, all the extra controller ports will mean for me is a few more places to make sure I dust regularly!
> Yeah, you don't have to get the rumble packs, but then it;s not the same as the

Not really. You NEED four players for a multiplayer game.
You don't NEED a rumble pak.
I've never used a rumble pak throughout the 2 and a half years I've been multiplayer gaming on my N64.
Admit it, you jumped into a battle you could not win!
Why?
He took a theoretical opproach, didn't quite work for real life.
